Sad Prom Date Dilemma

My Senior Ball is next Saturday. I've got my dress, I bought my ticket, and I'm gonna do the rest of my shopping on Sunday. But...there's one little thing I'm missing...I DON'T HAVE A DATE YET! Honestly, I don't have that much guy friends and the ones that I would wanna go with can't because they have their schools' proms on the same day.

My friends all have dates already and they've offered to set me up with people. But I'm really hesitant because I'm afraid that I'm only gonna like "use" them for one night as a prom date and never talk to them again. Is that normal?

Anyway, I don't know what to do anymore. I wish I would've got my prom planning done earlier. It's already next week! No turning back now since I can't get my money back for the dress and also people are EXPECTING me to be there (For pictures ). And plus, I WANT to go! Any advice on how I should approach the whole issue of prom and finding a date in a week?

Well, speaking from experience, I went to my senior prom with a blind date and we had a great time (got some hot kisses too ) We were set up by a mutual friend (he used to live in our hometown but had moved to Arizona...well, lucky me, he was visiting our area during that weekend and didn't mind being my date!) He was a great guy and I don't regret it one bit He was GORGEOUS (black hair, blue eyes, built...YUM!), interesting, and an all around nice guy.

I mean, of course we didn't see each other again after that weekend, but I still had a nice time Who knows...maybe the same will happen for you Hope you have a good time!

That was my situation, pretty much. Except one of my friends can't go if she has a date (strict Indians, anyone?) and I'm only going because I would feel bad if she went alone.

I'd say, go for the setting up. Chances are there's guys out there that are in your same situation.

I went to my prom without a date, I danced (with my brother) he's older and had a decent time. Don't feel bad to go out there without someone next to you.

What about just going with friends? Find friends who also don't have a date and just have fun at the prom.

In my day I went to a few proms with girls who needed a date at the last minute. It's not a big deal.

I would just go with anyone who you're comfortable with...not sure about the blind date thing. Too much pressure, for me anyway.

Do you have any friends, a cousin, your brother's friends....even your brother? Just someone to enjoy the evening with.

my opinion is probably worthless because i've never been to a prom in my entire life (mostly due to being banned for life from ALL school extra-curricular activities), but is there actually something wrong with just going with a group of your friends and NO date?

i mean, you wont have anyone to watch if the coast is clear while you spike the punch and rig up the bucket of pig's blood above the stage, but I'm sure you can still get the job done and still have fun

Karen, I did and still sort of do feel the same exact way. My junior prom is the same day as your senior prom and yeah, most of my friends have dates too. The thing is, I've find people all think it's so important to have a date...yet when you think about it, they're kind of pointless. Most of the time your're just with a group of friends and it's not like if you have a date you're obligated to talk only to them and that you won't have a good time with your friends that do have dates. In fact, all they're really for is to dance with at slow dances. All in all, they're really not that necessary. Now that I've realized that it really doesn't bother me so much. You'll have a great time because you're a cool person and I'm sure it'll turn out a lot better than you might think. I myself wouldn't go on any set-up dates because I wasn't interested in feeling like I had to pay extra attention to some kid I didn't really know. I'd rather go alone. But if you don't feel that way, go for it. Whyy not?

you really don't need a date for prom to be honest. i had a lot of friends go alone b/c they didn't want to have to worry about entertaining the person all night, smart idea actually.

That's what I did and still had a lousy time.

If all your friend have dates though, let them set you up. Even if it's just for one night...maybe he'll be looking at it the same way.

In all honesty you don't really need a date because your gonna end up dancing with your friends anyway. So go by yourself or like the others have said, go with a blind date.

I think people want dates cuz of the pictures.

Anyway...great news...I FOUND A DATE!! My friend set me up with someone who wanted to go to prom (He's a senior at my school as well), but he didn't have a date either. So I was like okay, sure. Anyway, I kinda know him cuz he's a mutual friend, but he and I don't really talk much. But he's a cool kid, and he's someone I'd definitely like to get to know better.

Thank you all SO much for your advice though! I really appreciate it!
