Default The 6th Season "Theme Song Different", "Colored Christmas"

I bought the set and noticed that the theme is different it has more bass and sounds a lot better than on all the other sets, anyone else notice this.

Very disapointed with the Colorized Christmas episode, Why couldn't have they put the WHOLE episode on the disk. It would have been nice to see the Black and White Flashbacks mixed in with the color scenes, what was up with that.

I never laughed as hard on this set when Lucy called Ricky's uncle a Big Fat Pig in spanish. that was hillarious.

I believe you can still buy a copy of the entire colorized episode from Gregg Oppenheimer from his website (http://www.lucylibrary.com/ for $20 (you have to e-mail him about it from the site; an option about buying the disc is not listed on his site.) I bought a copy last year...you can see screen caps I took from it on in a thread I started in this "I Love Lucy" board, or my Lucy Photobucket Album.

actually Lucy never said big fat pig in spanish. She states MACHO GRASA (something like that). In spanish the word for pig is PUERCO, CHOCHINI or MARRANO. If she supposedly said pig, it wasn't in spanish. Big in spanish is also GRANDE or GRAN.

Wait, I'm confused. What do you mean the whole episode isn't on the disc? Also, When you say, "the entire colorized episode," are the flashback scenes colorized as well? I've always wanted to see the flashback scenes in color and wondered why they were never included. DizzyArnizzy, are the screen caps you took from the colorized flashback scenes? If so, I can't seem to locate them. The only ones from that episode I remember you posting were from the non-flashback sequences.

This was the same thing with the colorized scenes in both the Babalu Music and the promotional introduction on the CBS/FOX I Love Lucy Collection: Volumes One to Four. I mean, I liked them and thought they were put together nicely, but they only colorized the characters & left the background in black and white. Why couldn't they take the time to colorize both? In the promotional introduction on the CBS/FOX I Love Lucy Collection: Volumes One to Four, the first scene is taken from the episode "The Courtroom." Ricky is in front of the fireplace and straightening his tie and is in black and white. Then, Lucy comes out of the hallway and enters the living room in color. Then, Ricky turns into color. I would have loved to see the same thing happen, except have the background turn into color as well, either at the same time with Ricky or right after. Then from that point on, have all of the scenes be COLORIZED scenes! LOL I know this is also on at least one of the I Love Lucy: The Collectors Edition DVDs from Columbia House. Does anybody have screen caps of these scenes from either Babalu Music, the CBS/FOX I Love Lucy Collection: Volumes One to Four or the I Love Lucy: The Collectors Edition DVDs from Columbia House?

My Babalu Music is on VHS format so I can't do screencaps.
Most of the video is in b&w except for the last musical number. The colors look very modern for such and old show but they don't look bad; it's just a matter of taste I suppose.

My Babalu Music is on VHS format, too, Kazza! I don't believe it was ever released on any other format other than VHS. I am not sure, but I think it may have been released on laserdisc. How did we ever manage? LOL I hope it will become available on DVD soon. Maybe they will take the musical numbers from the newly remastered DVDs and replace the ones that are currently on the video. If there is a DVD release of this, I'd love to see more musical numbers included. I'd include each and every musical number from every show that featured one. LOL And maybe another video or two with colorized scenes!

It also came out in laserdisc , the master tape had a cover that said "Just watch it!" .I know that I became a Weird Al fan after watching his work on that video.

The entire black and white episode is included on the disc, but only the wrap-around (non-flashback) scenes were colorized, so you have no choice to watch the episodes with the colorized scenes, you can only watch it entirely in B&W. BUT in the "bonus" section of the disc, you can view all of the wrap-around, colorized scenes, but you can't view the episode with BOTH the colorized & B&W scenes...very confusing, but you'll see what I mean once you get Season 6.

The screen caps I took were all of the non-flashback scenes...the only scenes colorized in the episode. Here's the link to the thread with those screen caps:

I was in a used record store yesterday that I like to shop at and they also sell dvd's and video's in there. Anyway, I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted the sixth season boxset for $18.95. It just came out a week ago brand new and here I got it exactly one week later for only $18.95. I couldn't believe my luck.

I was disappointed too with the Christmas episode. I really was looking forward to see that colourized version and was very disappointed that they didn't include the whole episode.

Also, the one episode where Lucy and Ethel are trying to keep Fred and Ricky from judging the bathing beauty contest, and they end up on the deserted island, I do not ever remember seeing that episode before and I've been watching ILL reruns for my entire life. Did they put that episode in syndication?!?!?!? Because I sure do not remember EVER seeing it. Plus, another thing, Claude Akins and Joi Lansing both appear in that episode. How come they don't acknowledge their appearance in the final credits like they do in other episodes the actors who appear???????

Signed,
Respectfully,
Dutch

They meant "fat pig" in the figurative sense. A macho is a guy, and graso is an adjective meaning fat (though I tend to think of it more as relating to food). So she was calling him a fat guy, in a not very politically correct manner.

Default Once and for all....

...the episodes of "I LOVE LUCY" you see today are different from the ones originally shown on CBS during their initial broadcasts.

For one thing, each of the animated opening titles shown had different sponsors over the six seasons "LUCY" aired on Monday nights....and their products [Philip Morris cigarettes, Lilt Home Permanent, Cheer detergent, Sanka coffee, etc.] were shown as part of those opening (AND closing) titles. When the series finally appeared as daytime repeats on CBS in early 1959 (and in syndication after the fall of 1967), the decision was made to use ONE "standard" opening and closing title- the "heart" frame, with refilmed titles in front of it. If it weren't for Lucy and Desi saving copies of virtually all of their shows- and those who acquired original prints on their own- we might not be seeing the "reconstituted" animated titles and transitions seen on TV LAND today!

Second, not all of the closing credits in the "reissue" version of the show have the announcer's credits as to who played supporting roles in "tonight's episode". The most (in)famous example is "Lucy And Superman" [January 14, 1957]. I was fortunate to see an original network print of this episode {Procter & Gamble's "Lilt" originally sponsored this one, with Lucy & Desi delivering a cute commerical for their alternate sponsor, General Foods' Sanka coffee, before the closing credits}, and during the closing credits, announcer Roy Rowan said, "Our guest star tonight was George Reeves, star of the 'Superman' series". This vocal credit was NOT included in the syndicated version of that episode.

So, unless you're a collector or know someone who has copies of those "network prints".....

Gregg Oppenheimer posts occasionally on alt.tv.ilovelucy, and he mentioned that the version of the theme used for the syndicated versions is a distorted, optical version. Greg wanted to restore this version for the DVDs. But apparently, Desi Arnaz borrowed the master copy from CBS in the early 80s and put a "reverb" effect in (as was the trend at the time) when it was included on TV theme compilations. The master copy was never returned, and Gregg didn't want to use the "reverb" version.

Gregg did find a pristine copy of the the closing theme used for the sixth season, so he took a piece of that and used it for the opening on the season 6 DVDs. It does sound a lot better.

I agree 100% that the "new" version on the 6th season sounds a lot better, yet that distorted version is what I grew up with on the reruns. It's like watching the show on TV Land: I think it's neat how they redid the openings for TV Land. Yet, when I watch it on TV, I still miss the heart on satin, regardless of that's the way it was in the original airings or not. That's the way I remember it when I was first introduced to the show.

Has anyone else noticed how the satin in the opening credits of Lucy and Desi's movie Forever, Darling looks kind of familiar?
