Default Alderman Davis was alderman for 20 years??? How long can one be an alderman?

When Flo said that for twenty years that Davis has been doing nothing, i wondered, is there no limit on the term that one can be an alderman?

Unfortunately, there are several political positions with no time limit. Not so sure about an alderman.

I'm assuming it's like a mayor. I looked it up in Webster's and it said a bunch of crap about it being a person governing a kingdom, blah, blah, blah, Then it also said, "A member of a city legislative body".

If your name is Kennedy and you're a Massachusetts senator, you can do nothing for over thirty years and still have a job.

So Alderman Davis is not as fictional as one may think...

I've always thought an alderman was some kind of City Council position. People will re-elect a person because of their name, their senority in the governing body, their charm and charisma or because they paid enough for their vote!

I know what you mean....if the people hated him so much, why was he keep getting elected??? He must have had many pockets being filled in the city...from the way Florida and Willona made him sound, he was down and dirty. He made himself seem stupid by not being able to answer questions, just avoiding them.

I don't think that the Evans were the only family that he was threatening. And I think he was doing to some dirty dealings under the table.

Probably because the other candidates weren't any better - kind of like the elections we have now. You have to go with the lesser of two evils. I don't know - I don't think too much about such deep things when it comes to a sitcom. The Evanses needed an antagonist, I guess.
