Hey kids, TJL here.

There was nothing much to do at work last week, so I had the chance to work on a project I had been thinking about for a while.

Here is a pic of the table I made. You'll notice I used a special piece of metal for the tabletop.

Let me know what you think.

Still bored at workthis week, so I made something else yesterday. It's a plantstand I made from some odd shaped steel rods and a 3 inch ring we used for a fancy gate project.

Hiya TJL that plant stand looks cool. Where are you going to put the table? That looks cool too.

I've been thinking of doing some projects myself with some plant pots. If I ever get to it I'll post it here too.

Thank you.

The table is up for grabs between any of my friends. If the guy who suggested the idea to me wants it, he can have it. I was thinking of putting it on display at my local bar, because some people there want to get a look at it. It's going to be a pain to transport though.

I'll post a few more pics of the "finished" table tomorrow. It looks much better now than in the pics above.

Thumbs up

Very clever and unique TJL. You should market these things, bachelor style items.

Okay, here are a few more pics to bug you with.

This is the "finished" tabletop. It's been cleaned with a grinder (with a wire wheel attachment to clean the dirt and rust off without damaging the surface) and painted with a clear coat spray which will keep it from rusting again. It darkened the metal a bit and it has a nice shine, plus all the nicks and scrathes on the surface really give it character.

We also built a second base out of a piece of 8 inch pipe with a flange already welded on the bottom.
The tabletop is removable. Clever huh?
Actually no, the manhole cover is made out of cast iron, which you cannot weld. So the cover sits on top of the base. We'll try to figure a way to attach it to the plate that's welded on the top of the pipe. Maybe we'll drill some holes and try some screws or something.

Also, this table can tip over pretty easy, but the idea is to drill holes and anchor it to the concrete on a patio.

The original four leg base we built last week is nice, but kinda plain. I'm hoping to build something a little more fancy, or maybe find an iron table and swap the top for mine.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you. I'm more than just a pretty face.

I work for a small construction company. We specialize in steelwork. We do lots of welding and we make railings, stairways, and other structural work.
It's fun doing projects like this every once in a while.
Considering we've been slow the past two weeks, I wouldn't mind if we started making some of this kind of stuff to sell.
My co worker and I probably had more fun making this table than we've had on any other job in recent memory.
