the story about the RFK assassination conspiracy? I taped it off NBC years ago, and I know it was re-run numerous times on NBC, but can't remember if it was on Lifetime.

I remember seeing the whole Sirhan Sirhan thing on NBC... but I don't think they have shown it on Lifetime as of yet.

Actually, it was rerun on Lifetime.

If anyone is interested, there is an RFK piece on the Strange Legends box set. Had to with someone who happened to be right there when he died taking pictures and the film mysteriously vanished.

The guy who from the RFK segment is a nutcase egomaniac who understands the public's lust for conspiracy and tries to capitalize at every turn.

In the early '90s I was on a sports talk show in Las Vegas frequently and on one occasion the other guest was Dan Moldea. He tried to claim the famous '58 NFL title game between the Colts and Giants was fixed. One problem. He had all the facts wrong and made ridiculous assertions. His basic premise was the Colts went for the TD in overtime instead of the normal field goal since the spread was -3.5 so a field goal wouldn't have covered. I jumped all over him including the last drive in regulation, when the Colts leisurely settled for a tieing field goal instead of a touchdown that would have covered the -3.5 right there. He had no explanation for that. The game would never have made it to that point other than Frank Gifford stumbled slightly on the final drive in regulation and came up inches short of a first down that would have ended the game.

Fixed games do not come down to inches here and a decision there. You put the money up ahead of time, usually massive amounts, and you only do it when there are virtual guarantees of a comfy ride. Especially the NFL title game which was the equivalent of the Super Bowl in 1958.

Moldea never had a competent counter. He frantically raised his voice in dismay that someone was challenging him. People in the audience were chuckling. The host of the show came up to me later and emphasized, "I liked your argument." So when I see Moldea making assertions in the RFK case and elsewhere, frankly I dismiss them.

I find it funny that Moldea's latest book discredits the conspiracy thoery that he was selling in the UM segment in question. He now believes Sirhan acted alone.

As a said note, while Moldea may not be credible, I don't think the conspiracy thoery can be totally ruled out. Autopsy reports indicate the fatal shot into the back of Kennedy's head was fired at point blank range from behind. All the witnesses claim that Sirhan was several feet away and in front of Kennedy when he opened fire. Also, not that this means much, but I have on DVD several hours of live network television coverage of the assassination in 1968, and several of the witnesses interviewed expressed the opinion that two shooters were involved. A couple mentioned that they saw someone bolt from the pantry after the shooting. Again, not proof of conspiracy, but I found it strange.
