Default Do you think Cosby Show was trying to compete with the Fresh Prince in season 8 when

the show gave off a HIP HOP vibe going by the opening credits and the heavy focusing on Pam and her friends? At the Time Fresh prince had a very good first season while the cosby show was slipping and to me it looks like the producers felt that HIP HOP was the way to go if they were going to compete with the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. What do you think?

I know it's politically incorrect to say this but I think Cosby was trying to be too black in the end and it didnt help. References to hip-hop culture, Pam's friends, Theo teaching at the school, etc. The thing that made the show suck in the end was Olivia and Pam. Well despite Olivia being annoying, the show did manage to stay on a while longer but Pam was it. Worst charcter addition, IMO

There's no such thing as being too black, You can't "act" a color or a race.

And I think that Cosby was just trying to keep up with the times, there were A LOT of things going on in the early 90's that he could have touched on and he didn't. I think that he used ADW for that outlet of Urban life. Hip Hop/rap was BIG in the early 90s, in the 80's it was much more of break dancing. I think he was changing with the times he couldn't stay stuck in the 80's.

I don't think that he was trying to compete with Fresh Prince. I thought that he was competing againt The Simpsons at one point in time. So I think that Fresh Prince was the less of Cosby's worries.

But it was still no need for the show to give off a Ghetto vibe when it was the complete opposite for so many years

What Ghetto Vibe?? I Don't recall any of the characters using broken english, or cursing, beating each other up, in any gangs. No one wore baggy pants, no one got pregnant, no one wore gold teeth, they weren't disrespectful. So I don't know this Ghetto vibe you speak of.

Cosby changed with the times, the kids dressed like real regular kids dressed during that time. And they used slang like trip, tripping and peeps. It did get a younger feel to it when he added new characters, and Rudy grew up.

I think the show was just losing ground by not having Lisa anymore...Sondra was married and not in the family home...Vanessa was pretty much engaged...Theo was off to college...Bill needed kids in the house and he thought this was the solution. BAD DECISIONS.

I liked the new additions to the show, I guess I'm the only one. BUT I could have done without Olivia.

Why would they compete with Fresh Prince? They were on the same network.

Exactly, and Fresh Prince came on Monday nights and Cosby came on Thursday nights. I see no reason for Cosby to compete against FP

maybe compete isn't the word to use here. maybe Solomon is suggesting that CS was somehow copying FP in certain ways.
