In a recent article I found (see the link above), David Gordon Smith's murder conviction has been upheld. He is the man serving life in prison for the 1978 murder of Oklahoma police officer J.B. Hamby. In his unsuccessful appeal, Smith claimed his accomplice Jackie Ray Young forced him at gunpoint to commit the robbery. As depicted on UM, Smith and Young went to rob an office in September 1978. Hamby arrived at the scene, where a shootout ensued. Young was killed, while Smith was wounded. Sadly, Hamby died of gunshot wounds. Sentenced to life in prison, Smith escaped in 1985, but was captured after being profiled on both UM and America's Most Wanted. He was denied parole a few years ago. |
