Default It IS "Just A Show"

I know that what I'm about to say will probably rankle at least one member here, but I think it needs to be said...

..."It is 'just a show.'"

The reason I say this is because a couple of people have been taken to task by some members here because they either used that exact phrase or implied it in something they posted here.

Yes, I can analyze and go on about my favorite shows and what I like about them, what I don't like about them, etc... But in the final analysis, they are just that, TV shows.

They don't cure cancer, they won't pay my bills, they won't solve the world's problems. That doesn't mean that they don't have some significance - after all, they do provide diversions from our lives and give us a common purpose as members here. I certainly am not trying to diminish that in anyway.

But to take someone to task because they have the attitude that "It's just a show" is wrong in my opinion. If someone states their case articulately and in a non-threatening manner, no one should get their hackles up about it. Besides, getting your hackles up is what the political forum is for.

I like to have fun analyzing the minutiae of my favorite movies & shows, but in the end, they are just entertainment.

Now, if anyone wants to challenge me and try to make the case that Jennifer Lopez can act or That '70s Show is funny....

BRING IT ON!!!!

The last thread about this was locked. I don't know if this is a good idea. One longtime member already left because of it. I think everyone knows its just a tv show. What some people are mad at is that when a discussion goes on, somebody will cut in with that obvious statement. Everyone knows its a tv show but when that statement is made it seems that they are talking down to the people having that discussion. Thats the way it seems anyway even if they don't intend it to be. I'm done talking about it . I think everything was said in the other thread.

BTW Jennifer Lopez sucks.

I agree they ARE just shows , and no one should get upset if someone disses someone elses fave show, but, they do sometimes.....So, you have to be careful , oh well

when it comes to you Dr. Thong, I don't take it seriously, because when you do post that "it's just a show, etc" i take it all in jest...which is what you are doing. But when newbies or anyone else TAKES IT SERIOUSLY and throws it in the middle of a discussion that many are having, it kind of puts water on the coals...sometimes it is like putting gas on a fire! Wow!!! anyhow, you are correct when you say certain things that those posters are trying to say should be saved for the political boards. Don't tell me abt how your personal beliefs are when we are discussing something that isn't obviously going to the change the world.

AS FOR J-HO...THE b***** CAN'T ACT, SING, TALK, STAY MARRIED, KEEP HER PANTIES ON LONG ENOUGH FOR ANY MAN, STAY HOME, NOT MAKE MORE MONEY...ANYTHING...ETC ETC ETC...Don't get me started on how much i hate her and what a sap she is...did i make my point?????

Isn't a Message Board for TV Shows obviously get passionate messages, nobody thinks that the show is the a cure for cancer...but its a Message Board, when they talk with passion you are only seeing 1 side of them.

'Its just a TV Forum' - what do you really expect?

I did watch An Unfinished Life yesterday, but only because two real actors were in it, Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford. Hell, even the kid who played J.Lo's daughter could really act. J.Lo was...herself.

Now you'll hate me for watching a J.Lo movie, Irene!! I know how you are!!

It;s ok for you to feel that way but don;t mess up the flow of a thread that has a good discusssion going on with a stupid response like-"It's Just a TV show" Don;t you think everyone knows that already? Futhermore if you feel it's just a show why did you even become a member at SitcomsOnline?

What bothers me is when someone gets their panties all in a wad because someone doesn't like their most favorite TV show. That's when I say IT'S JUST A FREAKIN' TV SHOW!!! The world is not going to end because not everyone in the world worships Friends. (I've taken quite a bit of flack, on-line and off, for not liking that show. To me, it's just vulgar, asinine, unfunny junk.) There are a few shows that I really enjoy watching, but if someone says they don't like any of them, then that's no skin off my nose. Then, there are the people who feel the need to attack anyone who happens to like a show they can't stand. I've had people on-line attack me because I actually think Wings and Becker are good shows. There is no need to attack the fans of shows, even if you may not like the show.

Anyhoo, I'm off the soapbox now. Oh yeah, one more thing: Jennifer Lopez really is overrated! As is Jennifer Aniston.

I can't stand Friends either and I've been criticized for that on here too. I only voice that opinion on the General Sit-Com Board or other boards when questions about overrated sitcoms are asked. I've never gone to the Friends Board just to bash the show.
