They were sexually active. I know it seems like a ridiculous statement, but on the majority of sitcoms, the daughters are usually goody goody virgins. I think it was more realistic to have girls their age experiencing sex. Just my opinion.

I can understand that. It was annoying to see the "goody girls" as you pointed out. The girls on Roseanne were realistic and girls you can identify with. I can identify with Becky, getting good grades, being an achiever and then slobbering all over some guy that your family hates, eventually giving it up to him and marrying him.

Darlene, the tomboy, not doing so well in school, yet, had smarts in other areas, didn't care much for boys, a loner, hated the whole "hanging out at the mall with friends", etc.

I agree. It was true to life. The majority of teen girls their age with steady boyfriends are sexually active. Becky was 17. It's part of life.

That's one thing I like about Roseanne, they never sugarcoated anything at all! I agree that it was realistic. They didn't portray everyone as happy go lucky either. Darlene was mostly miserable all of her teen years.
