My friend has rented a living room set for over a year now for his apartment. He still hasn't paid it off, and now I think they are about to repo his furniture. I told him at the time, he would have been better getting it second hand from a thrift store. He is barely making his rent. He told me yesterday, they keep calling for him to make a payment. To make matters, worse, he's going to see if he can hide the furniture at his mother's house. I wanted to laugh. He better not ask me, because I don't have room, and I wouldn't do it anyway. But anyway, the moral is don't rent furniture unless you can afford it.

Way back in the days right when VCR's came out, I did that rent-to own thing. I was lucky to have paid the entire thing in less than a month. ADVICE: DON'T DO IT PEOPLE. The price of the product may be $200 but you end up paying $2000 for a stupid item. I once heard on the news that the interest rate for these purchases are worst than borrowing money from a loan shark!!!!!!!! |

Renting furniture is like paying on your credit card. My mother had a nice dining room set she rented 10 years ago, but she had to let it go, because she couldn't afford the payments every two weeks.

I've never done that, with furniture I like to pay up front and in full.

the thing abt those places is they take advantage of people who can't afford to pay in full like you or me. They prey on the weak. (Damn, sounds like a sermon). They tell you, "Hey, it only works out to $5 a week!" Sounds like nothing, but when it starts adding up and then you throw in that interest rate plus whatever charges they add, it can turn into a pretty thousand pennies.

I've never set foot in one of those places. If you can't afford a whole set, then buy one piece at a time. Because if you go to a rent place you'll pay more for the furniture there then you would pay if you went to a normal furniture store.

Another consideration is bugs. Roaches hide in television sets and other electronics. With the recent resurgence of bedbugs, people should be aware that they're as thin as a credit card and hide in all furniture, applicances, electronics, etc.
