Default Public Warning----Some advice

Someone came to me on the side- and discussed the dreaded "sale option"

You all know the speech.
Don't sell, it isn't good..it leads to trouble
Ok-

Let's move on.

One of the reasons Sitcoms doesn't allow, or promote selling is for safety- as copyright laws differ, as well as IRS, as well as all around, selling makes things complicated.

But, I would like to give an example of something for consideration.

2 years ago there was a UK gentleman.
His name was Marc.

Marc popped up on various sites, here included- and Marc decided to BUY sets.
He was from England and was not able to get current shows.
He wanted such shows as Drew Carey, and Law and Order
I believe Lone Gunman and Gilmore Girls.

SO marc decided to BUY- and several people hopped on that wagon.
They go this name, his address and decided since he was paying they were safe.
And since he paid by Paypal (He prefered it actually)
All the more better and safer.

Months went by, packages were sent out.
Over 30 total from 11 different traders/now sellers.

And the pacakges, were paid for shipping included.

Everyone was happy.

And then People started getting emails from Paypal.

Apparently, Marc had a few Paypal addresses, and was claiming he never received anything.
Simple enough right?
Just show the postal receipt that it was sent?
Wrong.

Paypal refunded all funds.
Every single transaction for
Lack of delivery confirmation.

Every single transaction.

If you read under their rules as a seller, and this is tiny tiny tiny paragraphing.

As a seller and the buyer protection terms.
YOU as a seller are responsible to show proof.

Well anyone whom has shipped to the UK knows, PROOF for that is about 16?19 dollars.
Marc wasn't paying for that- no one thought about it.

Now as opsts started coming up on various sites, I helped them organize their issues, and transactions and I took the time to call Paypal, which is incredible painful and time consuming.
Made mention of various facts such as multiple accounts-
the coincedence that not ONE? package arrived.
And scans of various customs papers.

EVEN SO
although marcs accounts in the next 2 weeks were deleted-
All funds were refunded.

Have they changed their policy?
I don't know. I have used them 2x in the last year for minor things.
But if your going to supply them your business, I point it out for debate.

We don't condone or endorse selling or buying- this is a trade site.
But I do believe in bringing up facts as I know that it does occure.
And I know of lately, I have seen quite a few offers to "buy"
No, not all peopel are scammers who want to buy.
NO, not all UK or foreign traders are bad people.
This was one highlited incident.
But things can repeat themselves.

Delivery Confirmation in the US to US average .55 cents per package.

The UK shipping is a pain in the tucas. As is shipping to Australia where
I have a good friend that I've shipped some stuff too.

The other options for delivery end up being ludicriously expensive such
as UPS/Fed Ex. Delivery Confirmation is cheap and definitely keeps
you 95% protected.

But my personal favorite story is from the Local Post office here.
I had a package sent by someone of the Savage Variety and we
got delivery confirmation on it. It was a hefty package so I was
excited when I saw on the USPS service that it had arrived at
my parents address (I have big packages shipped there for safety
since I've known we have a 5 finger discount specialist in this area)

So when I called my mom up to see if she had taken it in she said
it didn't get there. That kinda puzzled me a little bit. So I waited
the next day, thinking maybe it was just marked as arrived at
the Post office itself and delivered the next day. Again no package
so I called the Post Master (I like to cut through BS stuff quickly).

Well, found out that they scan it as delivered at the front door. but
they don't guarantee anything other than that. So I filed a police report
that the package was stolen. I called the Post master to tell them that
I had filed the police report. 3 days later my package mysteriously arrived
at the front door of my parents house.

I called the post master and said "Okay, so let me get this straight. I pay
extra to guarantee that it's delivered, and it amazingly didn't arrive on the
day that the postal worker said they delivered it, but 4 days later?. Does
this seem kinda odd to you.

I got the "we'll investigate it further".

It's still the cheaptest way to protect yourself 95% of the time.
the other 5%, it's nice to have a louisville slugger

Default pay pal

a few things

1. pay pal requires u to get A SIGNATURE on stuff over $250, so BE SURE TO DO THAT, otherwise EVEN WITH DELV CONF #, they can get the $ back

2. the INTERNATIONAL THING IS STILL THE SAME, to be honest, I hate to take pay pal from overseas, because it INVITES scammers! the ONLY way i ship via pay pal overseas IS IF THEY PAY EXTRA TO HAVE TRACKING# ON IT
b/c I too, have been hit by FAKE CHARGEBACKS by people who claimed they never got stuff overseas

3. go to www.paypalwarning.com for more of these type of stories

i still use pay pal, and it is the best option for online payments, BUT it still has lots of flaws to it

remember the good old days

when a scammer--bad trader got exposed, and then banned from the site

now they just seem to be able to hang around and prey on others who dont seem to read much

and run their mouths about innocent they are, anytime they feel like it, even when numerous people exposed them

it is a pain to send over seas and the shipping alone kills you. and with selling. it hard to make out a price. what is a good price that you won't get accuse of making a profit? for me i would have to sell what i have 3 times over to make up the money i put in.

Just before everyone goes off trading with us UK folk, there are some honest traders here, and yes shipping to the UK is a pain (price wise), but the reverse is true also. With nearly every trade I do, the postage cost is more than the combined value of the package

And while I can't speak for every UK trader here, If I know in advance that the person I'm trading with is going to be forking out quite a bit more on shipping, then I always make a point of helping out out with postage (if they let me).

I can see where some of the stigma of trading with UK traders comes from, I recently came accross a fellow UK trader on this site who has a massive collection, said that he wasn't intersested in trading with me, but he would sell me the 20 disc set that I wanted for £150 ($200+) Not exactly encouraging for trading UK.

So, while there are bogus traders out there who will take advantage of the fact that an ocean lies between the them and the other trader, just remember that for every rotten apple, there are plenty of ripe ones.

I've had the pleasure of trading with many excellent traders on this site, all of whom went out on a limb and took a chance on a UK trader. I just hope that the selfish actions of a few from this side of the pond (Marc for example) dosn't put the rest of you off.

The bar code that is on large flat rate global priority mail envelopes is like a delivery confirmation # to some areas. The post office will tell you different but it will print out on your receipt. Wait until you think the package has been delivered and then look it up on the USPS web site. From the US to Canada it always shows when it was delivered just as if you used DC in the states, also works for me to the UK, Spain does not show up. It is not 100% all the time but better than nothing. Check some old receipts if you have them and you should see that some of the packages did make it there if you sent them in the flat rate envelopes. This is all paypal needs if you have a charge back happen. I had one recently, I supplied the # and the money was back in my account the next day.

I personally think if the person outside of the US can not have a confirmed address than they should not be able to even do a charge back, it should fall on them, not the seller.

Default Oops

Oh dont' get me wrong, JIE3 is exactly right, I got some things in our trade that were rare here-

I love the variety on UK stuff, Canada too

And the risk goes in reverse too-
I meant it as a warning to BOTH sides of the dence

Know your traders, KNow your trades-
Check refrences, a UK trader has JUST as much risk
The US has their share of bad traders and scammers too- Maybe more-

Please accep tmy apologies for how that came out-
I am not saying UK is a risk

I am saying when trading, UK to US, US to UK

BOTH sides, should take extra precautions.

Default No need to apologize

I wasn't having a go you savage, that's the last thing I'd do, you're one of the fairest traders I've ever come across. I just wanted to make sure that people were aware that there are good traders over here to, that's all.

All the best,

jie

just realized it was oiver generlized on ONE side of the countries behalf
It was unfair the wait it was worded, it could have been worded, EITHER way

Meanwhile, Joker did a little research, and is doing a little more-

But thought I'd add the exact termonology on the Paypal info
