Remember the segment about the murder of George Conniff? I found out that a book was written on the case. The title is Breaking Blue. It was written by Timothy Egan in 1992 (and was reprinted in 2004).

The murder of George Conniff is another UM segment that I remember very well. He was the police officer who was murdered by robbers in Washington (state) in 1935. The gun which was used in the commission of the crime was found in a river 54 years later. Evidence that was eventually found suggested that Conniff was killed by another cop, and that a police chief had covered up that cop's alleged involvement.

UM ran the segment during the 1989-90 season, and it amazed me that the show would feature a murder case that had gone unsolved for over five decades. Even if all the suspects are deceased, it is obviously never too late to find the answers.

I have never read Breaking Blue, and didn't know there was a book about the Conniff murder until I happened to find it through the internet. So I don't know if the case is officially solved.

I heard there were rumors of a deathbed confession by either one of the officers, someone else involved, or the chief himself.......

Stack mentioned there was one suspect living that was 90 at the time and living in Montana, thats one thing that came to mind was one of the guys involved would do a confession while on their deathbed...
