Michael's Nickname - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hey guys, a random "Good Times" question has been puzzling me for a while. Willona occasionally calls Michael by a nickname that sounds like "Gramps."

What is that nickname, and how did he get it?

Someone brought this up on the TVLand board too. Most people seem to think it is because he was "mature" for his age. I don't think it was talked about in any of the episodes, that's just everyone's best guess.

that nickname was mentioned in the very first episode. It was never stated why she called him that. But when we had a thread abt this before, i posted that growing up my late brother had a best friend that everyone called GRAMPS. To this day, we have no idea why that was his nickname.

That's a good mystery, and when did Thelma get hers? She bugged JJ to drive it in the episode where Bookman sells his old DeSoto to JJ and his buddies.

I thought "Gramps" was a cute nickname. Michael was wise beyond his years and very booksmart. I guess that's how Willona came by that name.
