Default Funniest Stunts by Sherman Hemsley

One thing I loved about Amen was the funny stunts Sherman Hemsley engaged in. What stunts do you think were the funniest?

My favorites:

Retreat, Heck (Season 1)-The Deacon finds himself tied to a bed with his barefoot sticking out. A loose bear comes into the shack and starts licking the foot. The helpless deacon can do nothing but be tickled until Thelma saves him.

The Courtship of Bess Richards (Season 1)-Deacon gets beat up by Neil Carter when he admits he lied to her. She slams him on the floor.

Get 'em up Scout (Season 3)-Deacon gets caught in a trap and sprayed by a shunk.

Snakes Alive (Season 2)-A large boa constrictor gets out of the cage caught on the Decaon, who is afraid of snakes.

Sing Sister Sing (Season 4)-The bouncer slams the Deacon into the mud pit at the club.

Thelma's Birthday (Season 2)-The Deacon is tangled up in a brace that has him slinging in the air.

Deacon on the Line (Season 2 or 3)-Deacon demonstrates a car accident and gets caught in the demostration and crashes through a wall.

Rolly in Love (Season 1)-Deacon is allergic to cats but is stuck in a house full of them

Others I remember

An angry woman snatches all of deacons clothers off in front of everyone

How about the time that The Deacon and Thelma fell out of an airplane, parachuted and crashed through the roof of enemy headquaters. Thelma was in the Army at that time.

Deacon on the Line was a great ep, and where Deacon falls asleep and accidentally drives the cart out the (closed) door was hysterical!!

The woman who ripped off all the Deacon's clothes was played by none other than Telma Hopkins, in an ep called "Wedding Bell Blues" in Season 2.

SPOILERS

In the story, Rev. Gregory meets up with the first couple he ever married. The couple is on the verge of divorce, and decides to sue the pastor for negligent marriage counseling (?). Deacon Frye defends the pastor, and makes mincemeat out of Ms. Hopkins in cross-examination. In a rage, she physically attacks the Deacon and rips his clothes to shreds. Rev. Gregory is found not guilty as it is obvious the wife has severe emotional problems (to say the very least). Telma Hopkins was a riot in this episode, PMS on high heels.

I actually remember watching the NBC promo for that ep at the age of 12-lol The part with her attacking him was in the Promo but not when he was half naked

They feature that clip in the Roast episode during the 1990-1991 season. I always wondered how they filmed that episode and how many takes it took to get it right.
