my parents are divorced and my dad is remarried (as some of you know). but my stepmom acts as if she has as much authority over me that my mom has.
and worst of all my dad lets her act like she has all this authority she doesn't have. do you think that step parents have a right to confront and demand answers from their step kids and act like they have as much authority as a parent would havee? |

..Generally...yeah.
If you happen to be at their place, or yer out with them, or whatever, and you do something that warrants them having to say somthing, by all means. Generally, I see step-parents as just like any regular parents in terms of respecting their authoritah/authority (Caveat: If you don't meet them til your teenage years or older, I generally hold that it's your call them mom/dad. If you meet them when you're still a little kid, then you just *do*) |

the point was more that when my dad talks to me about some sort of problem we may be having, my stepmom jumps in as if she has authority and demands answers from me. she called me a spoiled brat because i didn't answer.
it's one thing if i was at her house, but i was in my dad's car and i didn't think she has that authority over me. |

I just saw this the other day. Dr. Phil says a step parent should never dicipline a step child. I would asssume that would go for other things as well.
However, my step dad always diciplined me, so...Plus I never really got along with him until I was out of high school. |

i wouldn't say step parents shouldn't reprimand their step children, but it pisses me off how my step mom seems to think she can confront me about a problem she has nothing to do with and expect me to explain to her. i don't owe her an explanation.
