Looking at prices on dog food, I see that there is canned meats much cheaper. Was this the same back in Good Times era? I never really understood this and asked my mother. She said something about knowing some old people complaining that Tuna was too expensive and they ate catfood but when she compared the prices they were the same, sometimes Tuna was cheaper. I do not understand this eating of dog food and cat food, there are cheap alternatives for humans and one does not have to resort to eating these unless it is the only thing left in the house but the woman on Good Times went out and bought it for herself. Maybe some of the stores in the poorest locations charge more for meat or something, but I do not live in the swankiest local and have been to some rundown shops and still dog and cat food were pretty high, especially in comparison.
I will say one thing about this one crummy store, I can not recall the name for certain, I think save a center or sav a lot. They are located in pretty bad neighborhoods but their ads suggested some great meat prices. Well, there meat was not up to standard, they charged for shopping bags and you bagged it yourself and you could not roll the basket out of the store. Aside from the meat, I saw loads of almost all generic store brand versions of everything like canned veggies, canned fruits, canned meat, pet food, cereal, soda, fruit juices, detergent, etc... Almost everything was store brand and they were charging two times MSRP of name brand products always available cheaper than MSRP at other stores like Hi Neighbor, Piggly Wiggly, Winn Dixie, Albertsons, Wal-Mart and others. there were a few name brand products with expired dates on them. This was a store opening sale I went to. Still dog food and cat food were more expensive than human alternatives. |

It's a shame ODDLES of NOODLES wasn't around in the 70's because Ms. Vincent could have ate that instead of dog food-lol |

Back in the 70's, the price of dog food/cat food was very cheap. A lot of things were. Gas, stamps, etc.

Yep, prices back in the 70s were alot cheaper. But bologna sandwiches and cereal beat dog or cat food anyday.

Top Ramen is not a spinoff. They just forgot to change the names. Once my 1974 edition "noodle booklet guide" comes in the mail, then I'll post the information to prove my case! LOL. You are one of kind, Sol.

I think Solomon has made his mark on this board. No doubt about that. I couldn't help it. I had to mess with him. He should be working in television himself. He always keep the boards a buzzin' with topics. LOL.

I love the part in this episode when they are talking about that lady not giving singing lessons anymore because they cut her social security and Willona says something like, "It's called the Washington D.C. Boogie, you take 2 steps forward and they pulllllll you back one" LOL
