Default Do you think it was silly to have Shirley...

..become the guardian of both Roger and Dee? It just seems like such a stretch to have a waitress from the kids favorite hang out all of a sudden become like a parent to both kids. I think it would have been better to expand the role of the father.

I just watched this show for the first time. Why did the actress who played the mother leave the show?

She was very unhappy with her role on the show. She thought the show would revolve around the family, but it revolved around Raj and his friends.

Thanks Brian. I looked up the show on imdb, and poor Mabel King met a terrible end with diabetes....losing both her legs and arms to diabetes before dying in 1996.

Yeah it was very sad. I really loved her on the show. She was a nice balance for all the stuff involving the kids.

They killed her off on the show and Shirley took over? That does seem strange to me, but I've only seen three episodes.

How did she die on the show?

No, they didn't kill her off. They constantly made excuses for her absence like she was taking care of a sick relative.

Janice it was because the actress Mabel King couldn't accept the fact that her character was not why people tuned into the show every Thursday Night and couldn' handle being in a smaller role so she decided to go else wherte-lol

I knew she lost both her legs...BUT HER ARMS TOO??????? OMG!!!!

as for the Shirley being a guardian...way too crazy. If they would have had the father around, then it would be sad because that's saying we can expand the role of the father but not Mabel...which was her reason for leaving. She was supposed to be the star.

Where did she go? What was the original premise of the show? Was she promised a starring role but there were breakout stars and everything changed?

It's a shame because I'm guessing the show was popular, and she was lucky to land a role. Good parts on hit shows are hard to come by.
