Question How are you with your neighbors?

I've never gotten very friendly with them. I'll wave, or stop and have a quick chat about the weather or whatever.

I've never been the type to befriend neighbors or even have coffee with them. I'm approachable enough that neighbors have knocked on my door to borrow something or asked me to get their mail and newspaper while they're away, etc. However, I don't socialize with neighbors.

How about you?

It's about the same here,Janice. I've lived around the same people for 6 years now and we are not the type of going into each other's house ect, just a brief hi or a wave is all we do.With my next door neighbors it was different though; if I needed something and they had it, they were always there; they also bought Christmas pressies for my kids and they didn't have to,they were great people and I miss them.

We're pretty much the same way. We haven't lived in this house too long and we keep to ourselves. Sometimes neighbors can get too nosy and it's hard to trust people these days. As our son gets older hopefully we will meet and become friendly with neighbors who also have kids.
I kind of wish it could be like the times when my mom was growing up where everybody knew everybody else and the neighbors would sit and chat and they watched their kids grow up together. If someone needed help with something the neighbors would all come out and give you a hand. These days though everyone is just so busy and people don't seem to stay in one place for very long.

A lot of neighbors have moved over the 19 years my family has spent in our neighborhood.

In the house directly across the street from us, the woman runs a licensed daycare center. She has a husband, two daughters, and a son. She has been running the daycare for many years, I think even before I was born.

Two doors down from her there was a family who moved somewhere else in the county. The mother, a licensed barber/stylist cut my hair. Since she moved, I go to a barber shop that's closer but my mother still goes to her. They were probable the neighbors my family was closest to. One of her daughter's was in my elementary school class.

We aren't very close to our next-door neighbors. The one on the left is a family whose parents got a divorce and we don't hear anything from them anymore. Our other neighbors on the right have a few kids that are all grown up. They got a divorce in the late 1990s, I think. They have two Jack Russell Terriers but their son has them in Riverside. He brings them home occasionally. I took care of them and their cat (which died in the early 2000s) while they vacationed. We see and talk to them more often than the other neighbors. It's usually about the racoons and possums that inhabit our backyards and eat our cats food.

One neighbor from across the street moved in 1995. I was best friends with their son and was devastated when they moved. It wasn't far; it was the city next to us, and it is only driving distance from where I live. But I have not heard from them since then.

And finally we had another neighbor from across the street who moved with her husband to Norway in 1998 or 1999.

We are very friendly with the ones we know. But we almost never visit their houses despite being in the same neighborhood for almost 20 years.

I have great neighbors. I trust my closet neighbor. When we went to Washington last year, I asked her to take care of our house, etc. She didn't have a key, but she watched out for strangers, etc.
I do have a neighbor that irks the f*** outta me. She is nice, super-caring and everything else. She was so nice when my dad died, etc. But she does this thing that pisses me off and especially my boyfriend...SHE RUNS AROUND NAKED!!!!!!!

J/k...she knocks on my kitchen window instead of knocking on the front door. I have a doorbell and still she does this crap!!!!! I have a security door and she could easily open it and knock on the door, but Nooooooooooo, she knocks on the window...and I don't mean a gentle knock either. I swear, i thought she was going to bust the window. The damn dog starts barking like someone is breaking in. It's a pain.

My mother became friendly with a neighbor when I was just a baby. They just really hit it off, as they both had kids. We didn't even live in that house very long.

They became close friends for life until my mother's passing over 40 years later.

I hate my next-door neighbors. I hate my whole neighborhood in general. Everybody that lives on my street is annoying, and I won't miss the neighborhood one bit when I finally get the hell out of there. We're only friendly with two neighbors, and they both live directly across the street from me. That's it.

My dad lives in what is probably the most awesome neighborhood. Everybody on the street knows each other, they're all friendly with each other, etc. Even though I don't live at my dad's anymore, the people on his street still remember me. I'm envious of my dad.

There are fifteen other apartments in my building, and the only "neighbors" I know are the two girls next door, who I run inot from time to time.
I have no idea who lives in the two other apartments in my floor; I never see anyone coming or going.
As for the other tenants, I see the same faces occasionally, but over the years many people have come and gone, so It's hard to keep track of people.

I've met people moving into the building, then I don't see them again until a year later when they're moving out.

I imagine there are lots of people here in NYC apartments who are friendly with their neighbors, but people are so busy with work and a personal life, a lot of people don't spend much time in thier aparment .

The only neighbors that we are close with are the people to the left of us, the right of us, and the families 2 houses from us on each side. Other than that, we don't talk to anyone.

Like TJL said, people move in and out all the time so it's hard to get to know most people. There's a few people I talk to that I run into from time to time, but I'm out of the apartment a lot so I haven't really gotten to know most people that well.

I only know my next door neighbors and only to say Hi to. My neighbor on the other side of me was an older man but he died and his house is still vacant. When I was a kid though, we lived on a Cul- de-sac and we knew all the neighbors. We used to go over to their homes all the time. Me and the other kids in the neighborhood were all friends. One by one though they all moved and the neighborhood went to hell.

We have lived in this house for 4 years and my husband and I talk to this little old couple across the street, and this other old lady that lives down the street, I think she's lonely because she'll stop by our house a lot just to talk about anything. There's a couple that lives next door to us who just moved in. And my husband talks to the man who lives on right of us.

I live in an orthodox jewish area, the temple is around the block. We're basically the only non-orthodox people on the block. we get offers from people trying to buy us out all the time. We were friendly with our old neighbor’s across the street, and they ended up moving because their kids were being taught at the school not to socialize and associate themselves with people without their beliefs. kinda sick. so basically all our neighbors hate us and we've always been nothing but nice. they cant drive and use electricity on certain days so we'll get knocks at the door complaining when we do. me and my brother have gotten into fights with some of the kids. one felt it was necessary to throw a baseball at us at 2am one night. the best was when there was a petition going around about our christmas lights

now i'm not trying to categorize all people of this faith, so dont jump on me. but yeah we're not friendly with anyone on our block.

A friendly hi and goodbye is basically what we have here. My wife use to be friends with a next door neighbor, but she became very flaky and her daughter would always pick on my daughter and the mother would do nothing about it. I basically told my wife to cut her off and she did. Now, whenever me or my wife are outside with the kids, if we see her kids come out, we move to backyard or go inside.
