What is your take on "cutesy, pet names" for friends and other non-romantic people in your life? Such as co-workers, acquiantances, neighbors, etc... I mean, are you the type of person to automatically call others these kinds of names during conversations? If so, why? If not, why not?
For instance, I know some people are used to calling people they know as "honey, hun, sweetie, sweetheart" or some kind of a pet name like that, so I understand that is part of who they are. Part of who I am is that I do not really call anyone any of these names no matter if they are a friend or just someone I know. I just do not do that. It is just not something I really do unless I am talking to a young child. It's just not me. That being said, I should've been a bit more sympathetic to a guy friend of him who I called "cheesecake" about 5-6 weeks ago. He got upset and told me he doesn't like when I call him that. I didn't understand at the time and just got angry with him. He's told me in the past that he doesn't really like when I do that, but I just subconsciously ignored his words. Oooops! I do call him that for certain reasons, but I will have to keep in mind to refrain myself from doing so in the future. I mean, I do understand him because I cringe when people I do not know too well call me these types of names. I am a computer lab tech for our nine computer classrooms, and I see a lot of college students daily. All our computer labs are locked in the morning until we see students waiting by their computer classroom waiting to be let in. At that time we techs will let the students into their respective computer classroom. There is a 30- to 40-year-old student who shows up as "the early bird" at one computer classroom. Everytime I let her in, she always says, "Thank you, sweetie" or "Thank you, sweetheart," and I cringe. I do not like it. I don't mind if it comes from a friend or family member, but I do have an issue with it if it's said by someone I do NOT know personally. But how can you tell that to a student? So, I do see where my friend is coming from when he doesn't like when I do it. I don't like it either. Anyway.... back to the above questions.... |

I call my husband Sweets, Sweetie, Baby whatever comes to mind.
I hate cupcake, sweet potato, suger bear and all of those other cutsey names. That's just over doing it I think, Sometime it's just plain sickening. |

What about non-romantic/family members who call you these names or you call them these names? How do you feel about that?

I have no problem with it. People are usually saying it in a nice way, so anything that is said with niceness or sincerity is ok with me.

I really don't mind it at all. I guess it all depends on how you feel about the person.

I like it when a woman calls me sweetie, or honey. It makes me feel good. As long as a person doesn't call me snickerdoodle, love muffin, or something stupid like that, pet names are totally fine with me.

In one of my stories, my character says to his girlfriend(well, the girl he was crushing on/flirting with), " Hello, Sweetheart Baby."
