There's an episode where Mr. Ziffel walks out the Douglas' house with Arnold and says, "Come on, Arnold, maybe we can catch the last part of Dick Van Dyke."
In the episode where they show Mr. Douglas as a WWII pilot, someone radios to him, "If you do get shot down, ask to be taken to Stalag 13, ask for a chap named Hogan" |

...always threw in sly references to "other" CBS shows from time to time. In fact, I liked the end of the episode where Oliver realizes the (fictional) soap opera Lisa's been watching actually reflects his own farm problem...and calls CBS direct to find out WHAT the plot of the next episode's going to be!!!

AH, the good old days; before VCRs and DVDRs!
If you missed a show on TV; your only choices were to wait and hope they'd rerun it. |

In the episode where Lisa writes down how many eggs she wants the hen to lay:
Mr. Haney: "You gotta make the numbers real big." Oliver: "That's ridiculous - a note-reading hen !" Mr. Haney: "Well they got a horse on TV that talks." Oliver: "He doesn't really talk." Mr. Haney: "Well he sure looks like he does." Of course, Mr. Ed was another CBS show. |

And BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and MISTER ED were also "Filmways Presentations, Darling." More than just a coincidence I'm sure.

in one episode, Mrs. Ziffel tells Mr. Ziffel that they're going over to the Douglases. Mr. Ziffell says "I don't wanna go. Arnold don't wanna go. We wanna stay home and watch Gomer Pyle".
