If my memory serves me correct no arrests have been made in the case. As far as " A BLACK SECURITY GUARD" he was a witness that reported the crime to New York police!!!!

The family's last name was Kim. By the way, they owned a store, not a restaurant.

Was that the case where a white guy in a tank top, glasses, and jogging shorts stabs an Asian lady to death near a dumpster or tries to dispose of her in the dumpster? If so, does anyone have the details or a link on this case?

I haven't heard of this case, either. It simply amazes me how many segments I've missed...

Default Here's a previous msg. that I posted on this case

There was a story on Lifetime today about a Korean woman who was found stabbed to death in a Brooklyn dumpster. Her name (probably mispelled Soon Y. Kim). Heartbreaking because she was a wife and a mother of 2 children and she had just left to go shopping. Her husban was so heartbroken over the murder that he eventually left America.

This story was bizarre for so many reasons. First, a security guard claimed to have witnessed a caucasian man near the dumpster with blood on his shirt. The guard claimed that the man offered him $20 to put something in the dumpster. The guard accepted the money and took down the license plate as the guy drove away. The police traced the car to a Tiawanese exchange student, who claimed not to have driven the car. The police stated that they did not believe that that was the car that was seen (Even though the guard gave them the license number and it matched the make and model). The guard took and passed a lie detector. Unbelieveably bizarre! Does anyone have any further information?

P.S. I always was suspicious of the security guard in this case, even though I do believe he passed a lie detector test. The person who dumped the woman's body probably would've wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible and it would've taken him about 1 min. to accomplish the task. Yet, in that 1 min. the security guard just happens to catch him in the act? Really strange. It gets my vote for the most heartbreaking segment on UM.

I don't think that the security guard is involved in the commission of this crime.. I know that it can be rather hard to believe but yes it is just as possible that he happened by and saw something out of place.. after all he is the overnight security so that would make in responsible for monitoring the grounds as well. What motive would the guard have had in killing this lady.. and the whole story about the white male?? I believe the story as he told it and that this was just a bizarre random act of violence.

I find this story bizarre in the sense that the security guard comes up with a partial plate and a description of the car that dumps Su Ya Kim's body Then the police come up with the partial plate and a match to a car just like the one the guard described. This is waaaay to coincidental to me. Is it possible that the student had an aquaintance that could have used the car not to her knowledge? Could have been someone hanging around in her dorm and snatched her keys. Surely the cops would have looked into this, right? His age seems about right for a college student.

That's just too coincidental to me, somethings fishy there!

Yeah I agree this story is one of those with the really bizarre coincidences in it. I was thinking the other day about how the car and the license plate reported by the security guard was tracked down to an Asian college student.

Could the killer be a delivery man/cabbie who drives around the college often and has a fetish on Asian women? He spots this Asian gal with the same car as his personal car and fixates on her. For whatever reason his fixation/obsession with Asian women doesn't lead him to be harmful to the college student but he either takes her car out for cruising or takes her license plates.

No thats a stupid thought. Thats like a light-night cable thriller plot. Besides, the segment said Su-Ya had been dead for several hours before her body was dumped, which mean she was probably kidnapped and killed in the late daytime and not dumped until midnight. The college student probably would have noticed her car or plates going missing in that time.

Watching this case I would have to say that the security guard seems credible. He could of just not reported the incident. Why would he put himself in the spot light for nothing.

LooksLikeCRicci....This segment is on one of CD's UM Vols...I forget which one, but yeah it's the one where the security guard walked up on that guy in the tank top and shorts digging around in the dumpster.

Su-Ya Kim was the ladys name.

Any updates in this case?

I remember watching this on Channel 10 in Australia in the early 90's, its one of those cases that just stuck in my mind over the years, like the Dave Bocks murder, the aussie pilot who disappeared over the Southern Ocean and the death of Kathy Bonderson.

Passing a lie detector test is way overblown, it indicates nothing really because it only measures physical reactions to questions, not whether the answer is truth or lie.

Give a lie detector test to a clinical psychopath, and he or she will always answer truthfully.
