Default Lasik Eye Surgery

Have any of you guys had this or know anyone who has? I'm seriously thinking of having this done but am a little scared. I do know that you are awake throughout the whole surgery. I'm just wondering what, if any side effects there are.

I have astigmatism but I'm also too chicken to have anything done to my eyes. Having children without epidural is easier for me.

My boyfriend had it done and he said it was one of the best decisions he ever made. I'm not sure if there were any side effects, I can ask him when I see him today, but I do know he spent the whole next day sleeping it off.

One of my siblings, as well as a handful of relatives, have had Lasik done. My relatives had Lasik done when it was still a relatively new procedure, back in about 1997. It has been almost 10 years since they had it done, and they can still see just as well as they did before the procedure. One of them had REALLY bad eyesight, something like 20/500, and since she got Lasik done, she has had 20/20 vision.

My sibling is the most recent family member to have Lasik done -- she had Lasik done in late 2003. She never had bad eyesight to start with. She wore reading glasses and contacts. Since her Lasik procedure, she has not needed to wear contacts, and she does not need reading glasses anymore.

Yes, Lasik is performed when you are awake; HOWEVER, my relatives have told me about what it is like, and it is nothing to be scared of. They give you a mild sedative and numbing eye drops. Essentially, you're awake, but you can't see them perform Lasik on you. My sibling said the whole procedure took maybe 10 minutes all together, five minutes per eye.

I would love to have Lasik done...but it is a pretty expensive procedure, and I am quite happy with wearing my glasses.

The odds of anything going wrong during Lasik are VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY slim. So, I would say, go for it.

The wife of the property manager that assists me here with my properties, had it done. To make a long story short, she ended up having a cornea transplant. She said her eye was so infected, it was like having sand in it 24/7.

Funny you brought this up because I found out two days ago one of my friends had Lasik Eye surgery done five years ago. She said it has worked really well.

She didn't say anything about any side effects, but I can ask her and post it.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I will go ahead and have it done. It is quite expensive. Around $1700 per eye but ins will cover some of it. I'm just so fed up with glasses. they get all scratched up and I can never remember where I put them half the time.

A cousin, and my brother have had it done. The only thing they say is to not rub your eyes for like a week..and don't let water come in contact with them while showering for a few days.

my dad had it done a few years ago, he loves the results & hasn't needed glasses since then. it was weird at first, because id known him for 15 years with glasses and then one day he doesn't wear them anymore.

as far as i know the procedure went fine, he had it done one morning, came home and slept the entire day (they gave him pills to knock him out) and then he was back to work within the next few days.

they even gave him a copy of the surgery on vhs... i have yet to watch it but i am a bit intrigued... but then again, i'm not sure i exactly want to see my father's eyes being cut with a laser.

I had it done 5 years ago and it was easily the best day of my life!!! I absolutely HATED contacts and glasses!!!!! No side affects, pretty quick procedure. I was scared to death but then I calmed down (by praying a lot!!!) I don't know what they do now, but they gave you valium to help you relax. My brother had it done the same day. He is 20/15 and I am 20/20. It helps to find someone you know that had it done successfully. That's what we did.
