Default Here are the main reasons Willona didn;t have the best luck with men

She was SHALLOW and MATERIALISTIC, period. No other way to explain it. And no one should disagree

Welllllllll, she was a strong woman that knew what she wanted. She worked, she supported herself. So she liked to dress nice and have nice things, what's wrong with that?

I don't see how Wilona was shallow and materialistic. She was an independent woman who had her own. She didn't need a man telling her what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Marriage is a partnership, not a dictatorship in which she was trying to convey to those knuckleheads who kept coming to her sideways instead coming correct. We are no longer in the 20th century. Women are more educated now and make enough money to hold the fort down themselves and raise the kids too. True, every woman wants a good man, who doesn't. But if they can't accept her being independent instead of being dependent, then oh well, that's their problem. Yeah, I said it!

If she was truly materialistic, she would have married Frank in a heartbeat to get out of the ghetto and provide for her daughter and stay at home. I don't know what other definitions of materialistic there are, but what I just posted would be a good example. She thought abt Penny and up-rooting her, etc. she put her daughter first...a woman who was materialistic wouldn't even bother adopting another woman's child.

Well there was the ep when she didn't want to go out with Walter because of his handicap. She was all into him until she found that out.

i agree that may have made her look shallow, however, I think she cleared things up when she said later on that she believed he would want to take things further and it would look like she didn't want him anymore BECAUSE of his handicap. If she knew right off the bat he would only want to be friends and have time together, she wouldn't have an issue. But that has nothing to do with her actually being shallow nor does it deal with materialism.

Irene had a perfect example, about refusing to take Frank's hand out. Willona was not materialistic and even if she was, she changed by season 5.

She turned him down because she actually wanted to work, not hang out at the country club.

Exactly. she put her child FIRST before herself. That is not being shallow nor materialistic. That is being a MOTHER.

Just like that guy that wanted to marry her, you guys were talking about Frank, I think this was a different guy. He didn't want her to work and she wanted to. Then he bought the boutique for her and said she could run it and not really have to "be there that much" and she didn't want any part of that. And like everyone's been saying, shallow people don't adopt children.
