Sad but true, Mort died of Lung cancer yesterday. He was only 67. A few years ago he had one of his lungs removed because of Cancer. After this happened, he became a spokesman for youth prevention smoking and for cigarette-patch type products. The last time I saw him he was on Larry King Live and wasn't looking too good but he said his cancer was gone. Many would remember him from his talk show--The Morton Downey, Jr. Show(in the 80's). There he would always use the phrase 'Zip It!' to his guests. The show was also similar to Jerry Springer except not as trashy, in my opinion. Many others would remember he was a chain smoker and was always seen with a cigarette--even at WWF WrestleMania V(5). This is the event that caught my attention and when I realized he was cool. He acted in character everywhere he went. A great talk show host and great human being. I will miss him along with his fans around the world.

Actually, he was 68. His wife admitted this on Larry King Live last night. Still a shame though.

I remember that Wrestlemania. I've got it on tape. Three things stick out in my mind about it.
1) Him getting blasted w/ the Fire Extinguisher by Piper. 2) Brother Love coming out dressed like Piper 3) Hogan beating Savage for the title. Actually, there is a fourth 4) the bobby heenan, red rooster match which lasted like 30 seconds (if that long) ------------------ Andy: C'Mon Ms. Garrett, throw us a song. Ms. G.: Born in the U.S.S.R. |

Yeah, that WrestleMania was great! I wish people like Hogan, Savage and Heenan came back. I still watch wrestling every time it's on but I like it better in the 80's-early 90's.
