Charles and Buddy's dates: 1st Season VS syndicated seasons - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Did you like any of the dates they brought? While Gwendolyn Pearce is Charles' first date, he did had a few dates, Megan and the dark brown hair girl. What is different about the 1st Season episode is that some of the dates did care about the children the way Charles was. Even when the commotion starts wrecking havoc, in the first season episode the date was more understanding and loved the company of the children. In the syndicated episodes, the girls Charles or Buddy dated really did not care much for the children. Rather, they are on a date for a reason. Some acted like complete bimbos and some were really cruel. Others were okay, but in the syndicated episodes, they are so different from the CBS version. I know it does not make a whole lot of sense, but it how I see things.

Actually, it sort of does makes some sense. What you said, I mean. During the Pembroke season the show was about Charles and the kids. During the Powell seasons it was more about Charles and Buddy and the kids were just there. In the Pembroke episodes Charles really loved the kids and they loved him. And I think Gwen loved the Pembroke kids too. The Powells always seemed annoyed with Charles and he with them. So I guess it is not too much of a surprise that his dates felt the same way.

The bond between Charles and the Pembroke children is what made the first season most special in my opinion. Though the Powell episodes were funny, there wasn't as much "heart" too them. The only Powell that Charles ever seemed to have a bond with was Sarah.

That's the difference between a good wholesome early 80s sitcom and a fast approaching the 90s sitcom. Television changed a lot in from the 80s and 90s.

But CIC was still stuck in the 80s, even when 1990 came. I mean, it still hold firmly with a bunch of Reaganomics. Anybody remember the wannabe Reagan advisor or (?) president who wants to interview Charles to further his enrollment in the final episode? Not to mention he had a picture of Reagan in his office and copying his mannerism exactly.

I remember that final episode...but wasn't sure what the question was. Was CiC "stuck in the 80's", of course, cause it was an 80's show. The final show aired in 1990. You can't consider it a 90's show if it ends before the decade really begins.
