Hey Solomon, do you think this line by Florence was funny? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In the pilot episode, at the end, Florence asked Helen and Weezy if they lived in the apartment suite. She then asked, "How come we overcame and nobody told me?" Do you think it was funny?

I don't think it was belly aching funny, but I do think it was an unforgettable line. The reason why I asked because I was watching "Television in Black...the first 50 years" on Black Starz movie channel today. Marla Gibbs was talking about the Jeffersons and how she was just a guest star at first, and when she asked that line, it generated a huge laugh from the studio audience, which it did, and they decided to bring her back as a regular. Your opinion, please?

It's funny now as an adult but when I was teenager I didn't undrstand the humor in the line. Still not belly aching funny but was laugh out funny.

Its probably her most famous line on the show. I laugh everytime I hear it.

I thought she was belly aching funny when she mixed it up with George...sometimes. Sometimes when she mixed it up with him she was laugh out loud funny.

Yeah I think it was the LOOK she had on her face that generated the explosion in the crowd when she said it-lol
