Default Did anyone watch the autobiographical movie of Bob Crane: Auto Focus?

I have seen it a few times and it really opened my eyes to the kind of philanderer he was and how addicted he was to "women" in certain ways. It really puts a spin on what you may have thought him to be. I recall the murder of Bob Crane and remember how shocking that was. It was even more shocking to hear the allegations being made abt his personal life. Obviously those allegations were true. The movie is really harsh but it tells of his downfall and I guess that's why the movie is very graphic.

True? Hollywood can't handle the truth! I haven't seen this 'Auto-Straight-to-Video' crap, but I do know one of Bob Crane's sons, Scotty Crane, and his second wife, Patricia Olsenhas objected to some of the details.

Objecting? Maybe he couldn't handle the truth. The first wife of Bob Crane would know alot of what her husband did...she divorced him. Alot of times kids don't know or can't see beyond their father...he may only want to know what he recalls. Surely he wouldn't know the same things Bob's first wife knew first hand, the things she found, etc. My ex-husband was not perfect. He has alot of skeletons in his closet. His kids don't know 1/2 of it. They know some, but not all. That's because I tried to shield them from it. I am sure this is the case with Bob's family.

So then it's the "stealing" of the story that he is more upset abt. It's not the FACT that his father was a sexual addict into women, porn, etc.

Bob Crane's oldest son, appeared on A&E's biography talking abt the very things that caused the downfall of his father. They showed a repeat of this bio the other night. This son, didn't dispute anything his father was and what he did. The one thing he did say was that he hoped that people remember he was a husband and a father too. Bob had wanted to get help for his addiction, which is what caused his divorces and the "loss" of his families.
Obviously, this son knew in his heart that his father sexual addict and there was no denying it. When Bob Crane was found dead, his motel room was strewn with all kinds of videotapes of him with women, including the man who will eventually be found not guilty of murdering him.

Its a well done but kind of depressing movie. From what I've read and heard it was pretty accurate.

And making up BS like Bob Crane photographed women without their knowledge, he had a penile implant, he was into S&M and had dungeons all around the country, etc.

Thumbs down

I saw the movie and I must say that Bob Crane was a man whore. He got what he deserved in the end. Think about it.

Thanx for that info. I believe that is the documentary where his son admits that his father was into all the things that Auto Focus showed/implied.

Bob Crane was a talented man with a lot of problems which unfortunately became the subject of a movie. The film, "Auto Focus" is a searing biography with terrific performances by Greg Kinnear and Willem Dafoe.

On the other hand, the film is not "the truth" at all, but a fictional representation of a version of events and judging the man based on the contents of a movie is silly and rude.

Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone....

I don't know anyone who is judging the man...certainly not me. I believe a man (or woman for that matter ) with an addiction, whether it's drugs, alcohol or sex is a person in need of help.

The movie, just like a lot of biographical movies, doesn't have the time to show us the person's entire life in two hours. Bio movies aren't always perfect. They will mix in dramatic "flair" with the truth. I can easily read several books on Bob Crane (I have read one) which will talk abt his sexual escapades and lifestyle; this is only one movie abt Bob's life. I recall when Bob was murdered. It was splashed across the newspaper and on television. I recall how hard it was to believe that Bob Crane had this other "lifestyle"...I was shocked. But it was the truth.

There is more to this man than what he did in private, unfortunately, no movie would be made on him based on how good a dad he was, his married life and his career on Hogan's Heroes.

I didn't see that post. It's my first time seeing that. My feeling and opinion is no matter what, Bob didn't deserve to die simply because a loser was going to lose out on free sex. That man got away with murder, if he didn't do it, he knows who did. That jerk is already dead so we can't do anything abt it.
