I watched a couple of episodes from the first season last night, and noticed that there were no other regular characters besides Fred and Lamont.
One was when they both had that test done and Lamont thought he had TB. We only saw the nursing staff. The other was when Fred breaks Lamont's glass collection and fakes a burglary to cover it up. We only see cops that come to the house. When did the supporting characters start appearing, or maybe I just happened to catch two episodes with only Fred and Lamont |

I know Melvin was in the first sesaon. The other white cop that came before Hoppy is either in the first or second but I can't remember.

Slower feel is right. Sanford and Son should have been on PBS during season-1 |

A matter of Life and Breath Coffins for Sale The Barracuda TV or Not TV The Suitcase Case The Piano Movers All hilarious episodes, And in the Barracuda episode Esther made an appearance. I don't know why you feel that just because the other members, who weren't even supporting cast members made the show funny or better. I think that Fred and Lamont on their own were a funny pair. |

And I can't believe the season 1 eps when Fred and Lamont had bills and when lamont got his own place is not on your list. |

The episode where Lamont gets his own apartment, I didn't like that episode all that much. For me the season that wasn't funny was the one where Fred is gone and Grady takes over. |

I agree that the supporting characters added the missing element to Sanford and Son, but I don't think the first season is bad at all.
I think that though it moves slow, there are some funny episodes and some definite character defining moments. The Piano Movers is one of my favorite episodes. I also liked Happy Birthday Pop, Here Comes the Bride, TV or No TV, and The Suitcase Case. And I like some of the others that aren't as fresh in my mind. I can see why some people don't like it compared to the rest of the season, but season 1 had it's own feel and element, and that was ok with me. And Season 1 is better than Season 6. |
