Darrin's Friend Dave - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

One of the best running gags in the first two (best two) years of "Bewitched" were the scenes with Darrin in a bar talking to his friend Dave. Darrin invariably pours out his heart, including mentioning that Samantha is a witch, and Dave keeps on babbling inane advice about love and marriage and never listens to a word Darrin says. It's not only a funny gag, but the device allows Darrin to say whatever is on his mind. (Like the scene in "The Girl With The Golden Nose" where he wonders why a girl who can have anything she wants would choose a guy like him.) I like to think that Darrin actually thinks Dave knows about Samantha, and doesn't realize that Dave isn't listening to him.

So how many episodes did Dave appear in? I recall:

- The Pilot
- "Eye of the Beholder"
- "Red Light, Green Light" (he appears as a neighbor, not a drinking buddy)
- "A Change of Face"
- "A Very Special Delivery"
- "The Girl With the Golden Nose"
- "If They Never Met" (which I think is his only appearance in the color years)

Any others?

I agree! I totally enjoyed Dave rambling on without listening to Darrin. "Now I know all about marriage. That's why I'm a bachelor."

I enjoyed the Dave era too, he was probably replaced by the drunk who later did the Charmin commercials.

Darrin also bumped into Dave at the toy store in "And Then There Were Three". Dave sees Serena and tries to flirt with her.
