I know that "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" has a LOT of episodes in public domain, & "PETTICOAT JUNCTION" has some, but not as many. Does anyone know how many "GREEN ACRES" has?
Also, some other shows? |

"GREEN ACRES" is NOT in the public domain....and SONY, who now owns MGM/UA, which acquired Orion, which acquired Filmways, is making sure the show NEVER falls into that "money pit".

How many of you out there own public domain DVDs and how do you like them? The only complaint I have is of that awful banjo music that plays before and after each episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Petticoat Junction". Otherwise, I think they're great. Those of you who are tired of the garbage that you see in prime time every night and love the early years of TV will find this stuff not only entertaining but educational. The commercials are a real eye-opener!
By the way, I followed the link that tvobscurities gave out and the website there was very good. Those people really know their stuff. However, I couldn't find any information on the show that I was looking for, which was "Make Room For Daddy" starring Danny Thomas. I have a couple of sets from that series. One of them has episodes listed under "The Danny Thomas Show" and the other has them listed as "Make Room For Daddy". These are the DVDs that I have so far, all bought for less than $10: The Beverly Hillbillies Petticoat Junction Make Room For Daddy The Jack Benny Program The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet The Colgate Comedy Hour with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis The Bob Cummings Show/Love That Bob Of course, I also have season sets of series that were released in their "official" form and I enjoy those very much. I just like to think of the public domain DVDs as guilty pleasures. They aren't legally meant to be seen but once you see one, you can't stop. Am I right, people? |

I have a public domain copy of "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and, despite it's flaws, I admit it IS a "guilty pleasure" for me, sometimes. Even though they have that awful banjo music at the opening and closing of each episode, some Elvis-sounding announcer on them (and on the first one, when he says "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES"! some other announcer-who's even worse- replaces him), they don't have the entire opening and closing on most of them, the episodes aren't in any order, they're edited, and the extras ajust one or two paragraphs telling some very basic biographical info. about the 4 main cast members, and a lame trivia quizI'll still watch them every now and then.
Don't get me wrong though, I still MUCH prefer the EXELLENT MCI releases!!!! |
