Default How often do you all watch America's Most Wanted???

I am SHOCKED that there is not a single thread on here about America's Most Wanted!! There could be an entire forum for just AMW since they have been around a lot longer than UM and have had a lot more cases. It is the most up to date and action packed true crime show out there now (since new UM shows are long gone) so why haven't any of you been posting threads on it????

Among the stories last night, 4/1/06, was one of a bunch of people at a gathering in Kansas City and 4 people starting beating and kicking just 1 guy!! Then when one guy intervened to help the guy they started beating on him!! The original victim got away but the guy who tried to help was beaten and shot and killed!! This happened at a big gathering on a street!! It's amazing no witnessed could help out since there were dozens of people around who saw it happen.

One reason could be because it was a gathering of Mexicans and a lot of them could be illegal immigrants. I know that Kansas City has a high population of illegal aliens since they are not a union town so it is easy for them to get jobs in trades like construction when they work for much less than what an American worker normally gets.

You know most cases on UM were involving fugitives from the law or seeking help for unsolved crimes just like AMW.

So, WHY don't the vast majority of posters on the UM board post anything AT ALL about AMW when the majority of UM cases are so similar in nature to AMW??

I have never noticed that the "vast majority" of UM posters don't post anything related to AMW. If anything, the show has been mentioned countless times on this post. I have even mentioned the fact that many UM segments were profiled on AMW as well, and specified cases (such as the hunt for Robert William Fisher, who is wanted for the 2001 murders of his wife and two children).

Wasn't John List profiled on both UM and AMW, or am I confused? I know for sure List was on AMW...

I want to say that Amy Bradley was featured on both shows, too.

In any case, I've noticed that many people discuss AMW while discussing UM cases. There may not be any threads that STATE that we talk about AMW, but the show has a very noticable presence within all the different topics that we talk about in the UM Forum.

Only AMW. But I heard that the case was unsuccessfully offered to UM.

She was (although AMW probably profiled the case first). The UM segment was first shown on CBS in 1999.

Yesterday I was staying up all night to watch the Wimbledon final at the ungodly 6 AM Pacific starting time and the show Missing came on at about 5 AM. I thought one missing persons case they featured was worth linking here, William Smolinski. I'm putting it in this thread since the case was briefly on AMW about a month ago, apparently a mention and picture not a full segment.

This guy vanished in the middle of the afternoon in Waterbury, CT almost two years ago. I guess it was special interest to me since my dad was born in Waterbury.

Hard to figure this case. I'm a little bit suspicious a guy who had such love for his dog would make a last minute request to his neighbors to look after the dog for several days while he was gone. You would think he would either find a way to take the dog with him, or make arrangements much earlier. It said he moved into the home recently so I'm wondering how well he knew the neighbors to begin with. Not that I consider the neighbors suspects, but I would want much more than the matter-of-fact description from them that Billy came over and asked them to check on the dog.

This looked like the best link but there are others on this case:

I like AMW off and On over the years... right now its off for me.

I like John Walsh, I really loved Sanford Strong, heck I even used to subscribe to the newsletter.

But unfortunately John has too many pedophiles to profile and that's just a real downer for me to watch regularly. I understand some of it maybe for politcal reason (ie by raising awareness of how often those people repeat their offenses it maybe easier to pass legislation that insures mandatory minimums and mandatory post sentence living structures), but man its just tough to hear those cases and realize there are so many more that they can't get to right now.

The other things that I think differentiates the two shows (UM and AMW) is AMW has a completely different style of presenting their cases. Sometimes this is good and sometimes for AMW it comes across as a little too tabloid. Which to me can be a little disrepectful of the victim. Just my IMHO folks.

John Walsh said they turn down cases EVERY WEEK!! Since that is the case why do they profile cases that are 50 years old??? The chances that whoever did it is probably dead anyway! Also, they spend TOO MUCH time on re-enactments when they ALREADY caught the guy!! If they already caught the guy there is no need to show the re-enactment all over again!!

They could spend that time on some of the cases they previously had to turn down!

I also TOTALLY AGREE!! There are WAY TOO MANY pedophile/child molestation cases on AMW!!

But I still love AMW since it's the only current show like this we have since UM is long gone. The shows on Court TV, Discovery, A&E, etc. are not current weekly shows so AMW is all we have left so LET'S SUPPORT IT!!!

Oh No

I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I don't ever watch AMW, or UM or generally anything where the cases aren't solved. Sometimes on A&E's Cold Case Files, they will sneak in an unsolved case, and that just makes me nuts... I get enough bad news on the news, and I subscribe to the Amber alert system both on my cell phone and on my computer.

I guess part of me just can't deal with the ongoing sorrow. There is enough of that around me at the moment.

Someone had posted a question as to the show "The First 48." I love that show, love the Miami cops especially, but when they don't get the guy I freak out.

Just one of my too numerous to mention quirks, I guess. I live on a steady diet of real life crime shows, but I just can't see the begging parents plead to have their child back, or the crying wife ask for some information regarding her missing husband. Too heart wrenching. Too sad.

My $.02, hope I didn't offend anyone.

Sarah

Sarah,

You offend me.

LOL!! Just kidding!

Why on earth would anyone be offended just because you don't watch AMW and UM?? At least you are fair and don't watch either one of them!! HA HA!!

Of course we're not offended by that. Its funny though because one of the reasons I love UM so much is the UNSOLVED part. I just keep wondering where this person could have went and who would have done something to them and have there been any developments since and it drives me nuts but I love it. It just feeds my very curious nature I guess. I totally understand what you're saying though with hearing all the grim stories. I really enjoy a lot of the true crime shows today but some days I just can't take the sorrow they bring and opt to tune into a comedy. Anyone else ever feel that way?

I can totally relate!!! As I said somewhere, I am disabled, and spend a lot of time alone and in front of the TV, and there are days, even tho I have my whole day of crime show watching all set up, I see one too many mothers crying over their dead children, and I have to turn off the TV, and blast some music on my computer, or watch an old MST3K episode I have downloaded. Now, if that doesn't make me feel better, then there is really something wrong with me!!!!!

BTW, thanks all for the wonderful warm welcomes I have gotten, I feel at home already!!!
