Hey sci fi lovers (all one or two of you), TJL here with another of my top rated picks.
I finally got around to watching the first few episodes of the New "Dr. Who" which premiered on the Sci Fi channel in March, and I give it a big thumbs up. For those not in the know "Dr. Who" is a long running british sci fi show that ran for decades. It has developed a tremendous cult following across the world, and this series brings the action into a contemporary setting. This new version is very funny and inventive, particularly episode 3 where the Doctor and his sidekick Rose battle the undead in 1860's Cardiff with famous author Charles Dickens. Great stuff! A second season is already in production across the pond, which means that the show is doing well there (it premiered in 2005 on the BBC) so hopefully it will win over sci fi fans here. Watch it! Don't make me come after you!

I did see a couple episodes, including the one you spoke of, although none in their entirety(I would always be channel-surfing and I would happen upon them). I was surprised because they were actually quite good(I don't have much faith in modern programs, lately).
Who was your favorite Doctor? Mine was Tom Baker. He just had that "command" of the character, and that eccentric personality and look. "Jelly Baby" anyone?

Actually, I was never into Doctor Who before this new version came along.
Granted, I know of the character and the basic plot of the series, but it was a series I never watched. But now that I'm a fan of the new Who, I plan to do some research into the earlier adventures. |

I haven't seen the "new" Dr. Who. I had heard that they are going to release Season One sets here in North America. I was an absolute, die-hard Dr. Who fanatic when I was younger (20 to 25 years ago). I thought that show was fantastic. I've heard a number of people criticize the older episodes of Dr. Who because the special effects look so "hokey" but special effects were not as good in the 1960's and 1970's as they are today. Plus, it was the interesting story-lines that made this show what it was, not the special effects. Check out the older "Doctors," in particular Tom Baker. The older episodes will definitely grow on you.
Signed, Respectfully, Dutch |
