Question Having someone buy a retail set for you for a trade????

Hi guys!

Does anyone see a problem with this??

Someone wants to trade with me but they have nothing to trade so I made some DVDs for them of a show that's not available to purchase but they send me a set they purchase new from the store...for example:

I send them 8 DVDs of the show "My Sister Sam" and they send me the store bought "Lost" DVD set...NOT a copy, the sealed store-bought set.

Is there anything wrong with this type of trade on here? I know others trade for blanks but I have a zillion blanks so I'm looking for a way to trade with someone who has nothing...

Thanks for any opinions/advice, etc....

Stephanie

I have traded like that in the past but since you asked..... on here someone can not list that they have original DVD sets for trade, why?? Its against the rules here. You can copy all of the episodes from season one of lost from TV and trade it but you can't trade the original retail version of season one lost. Does that make sense? Yeah, it didn't to me either.

Default do it, BUT dont post it

the swap is fine with me if its fine with you and the other, i have swapped for actual sealed retail sets, I have even made a swap for old action figures before

HOWEVER i am sure its against the sitcoms online rules, SO I would keep the details and the specifics off the board

the rule here is

no retails period

that covers both originals and the copies

Default The ruling

April, the reason that retail swaps aren't allowed-

To take a retail set and coy it obviouslly breaks copyright law.

However as much as it seems illogical to say what you can do with a set when you buy it

We as moderators did allow that at first and what would happen is, people were driving up their trades.

in example
trader 1- didn't have anything trader 2 wanted.
So trader 1 went and bought cosby ssn 1.
Then trade 2 sent.
Then trader 1 was upset they bought a set- which was 30.00 and only got 10 discs, which costs trader 2 5.00
And he felt kilted or resentful

so the next time he wanted more, becuase it cost him more

Meanwhile, another trader would RIP their commerical sets, and trade the actual retail set- not disclosing it.

Then another trader, SAID it was retail, but it was in fact a rip.
And then I as well as other moderators had to step in.
This is THREE of about 44 examples from one summer.

So the ruling was no retails.
It adds complications to the sale, and trades- it caused a rift so as there was not enough moderators to watch every trade, the ruling was no.

Now certainly your co-trader is correct-
Should you buy a set, and be done with it- and wish to pass it along, and they exchange something with you for it- so be it.

Just don't be it on here

I know we are all a bunch of party poopers.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. I understand that's it is not
allowed on here now, however I just want to state, in case there was any confusion about my question-I DO NOT trade retail DVDs out, I don't even have the capability to copy them if I wanted to and I wouldn't, even as a back up for myself...I buy them and they sit on my shelf hoping I'll have a chance to eventually watch them......

THANKS again!

i have a friend who has--seriously--5000 dvds that areoriginal retails

movies, tv , music videos

if she lived to be 399 years old---she wouldnt run out of things to watch

oh ya, plus about 1000 discs from me besides

retails are getting quite reasonable, on some titles

Hi Loren,

WOW, I thought I had a lot...Retails are much more reasonable than they used to be. I notice that at Target and WalMart sometimes they are about $20 less than the same thing at Suncoast or Sam Goody or FYE...I bought Season 1 of Nip/Tuck for a friend for $12.99 at WalMart and saw it at Suncoast for $50 I think it was...SAME thing! But, their selection is MUCH better....
