SO as I was interested in the original thread- I bring it back, chaos aside- to pick up where it was left off.

The original question posed by TVRESEARCHER was :

Are you a organized trader? How long does it take you to find a show once someone
requests from you? I have to learn to be more organized because it's me forever to find a certain show when someone wants it. The funny thing is I may see that show all the time until someone wants it in a trade-lol I want to start knowing exactly where to go when someone wants a certain show.

my system is just like the card file at the old time library

custom made boxes, cut down and taped with priority tape

and then a 4 x 6 index card that says the name of the set

all these are on those heavy wireshelve sthata re adjustable

i can find a certain disc in 4.3 seconds

to take it a step further

for those who do episode tardes

, i have a some of my sets listed on the computer with the disc code for the episode

example

series--jimmy takes a dump

ep 24 jimmies big day

disc 12 selection 2

this tells me if i go to disc 12 and menu selection 2, would be what im looking for

i have very few this way, since i do very little single eps

believe this

it takes time to get organized

but you will save countless hours of searching later

with some up front effort

i just changed the way i do it. a post like this was on here about 2 or 3 months ago asking this. i used to have a couple 400 disc binders that i kept them in, alphabetically the best i could. after seeing that post, i saw that someone had bought these carts from walmart that has 3 drawers a piece, each cart holding about 600 discs in sleeves. it took forever to switch it from the binders to the carts, but it's easier to keep them in order and i don't have binders all over the place now.

if you cannot find disc 14 of Crapola Theatre when u need to trade it, u will have problems,

if you dont store well, and disc 19 of Crapola Theatre is all scratched up with no back up - u will have problems

if you have to spend 3 hours digging through to find the unaired pilot for Crapola Theatre, more problems

if you spend a little time and get a little organization going, whatever works best for you-- u will save 10 X that much time and effort and stress down the road

I've got a 2 for one disc trade offer for you lamont for disc 19 of crapola theatre :-)

But seriously. I do have folders and I do end up using a database I made
in excel that works for me. The nice thing is that I can put it on my laptop
and use it, or move it to my PDA and see what I have if I want to offer
a trade while on the road.

Organization is your friend. along with 8x discs and Sharpie markers

Jimmy Takes a Dump and Crapola Theater were my favorite shows as a kid.

My wife bought me this cabinet with 20 cubbyholes and each can hold 400 discs. that will last me for a while. staffino

I dunno if I was the one who posted about this method, but that is exactly what I use. Binders became too much of a hassle, and with an always growing collection, reorganization was a day-long event. The Wal-Mart carts have been the best thing I have used, they come with wheels for easy mobility, and if you take the wheels off, and secure it properly, I think you can stack them 2 high.

It takes me a couple seconds to find a disc, I have a couple carts of movies, the rest of TV series. Within the TV series, I also have other sections such as Sports, Stand Up, Novelty, etc. Overall, a very great method.

I cant say to the second- but

I have one large bookcase filled with binders eahc binder has a number.

Each binder has the pages for discs that hold 8.
Each binder holds x amount.
When a binder is full, i type the number of the binder into my inventory list.

In exampled my inventory list on excel has

First colum name of show. 2nd column format, 3rd column quality rating. 4th genre, 5th column binder number and 6th is where i got it, should i need to replace it.

So it someone wants cosby, I zip down to cosby in my list- see its binder 42 and pull it.

Thats all there is to it.

Each binder holds about 40 pages of 8 discs. So each binder is about 300-325 discs.

I also tape a list of whats n the binder, to the inside cover- with notes.
Like Arnie, is msising 2 episodes and the episode titles.
SO should someone wnat my set, when I pull it I can say 'its missing x and x" for future records.

Or , if there is a glitch or error in titling- commericals, no commericals.
It all goes on the inside of the binder.

Yeah I know...it is awe inspiring.

but I can't pull them in 4.3 seconds
