Watching them now, I didn't realize just how good they are and how much better they are than the later ones.

Yeah they are, I've always preferred the first season over the others. The later seasons became the Urkel show.

Agreed! The show in my opinion started to lose steam in the mid 90's. By the time it moved to CBS, it was way too silly.

See when I was watching FM growing up I did not mind it being the Urkel Show well until all of that invention nonsense. But now watching the reruns I actually enjoy the first couple of seasons when it was more about the family and Urkel was just a side character.

When Urkel was a featured (but not the main) character, I thought the show was great. I agree, the first season or two was very solid. However, you could tell the show was not going to last long without Urkel coming in and saving it.
