anyone of course could answer, but I am curious abt the guys here.

I find that if a man can be easily emotional, or show his feelings like crying, then he is capable of understanding things more easily as far as women are concerned such as their physical pain, emotional pain, etc. I don't like when a man is afraid of crying or showing emotion.

That basically described my dad to a T. He's not emotional (excluding anger of course), so he doesn't really "get it" when it comes to depression, etc. I know he's concerned, but he doesn't know how to understand it, so he doesn't come across like he cares. Like, he doesn't understand why I get so depressed or anxious, because he's Mr. Calm. Doesn't show anything.

see, that's what I mean...and it's not healthy to not let your emotions out.

I don't think a guy not being emotional makes him less understanding of a woman's emotions. Some guys just simply don't release emotional build up by crying as much as some people do.

j/k With my dad though, he really doesn't get it. But then neither does anyone else who doesn't suffer with depression/anxiety.

I think its the whole "Men don't cry" thing. I think men were taught at an early age that men shouldn't cry or show emotion. I saw a man in the store hit his son, and then he tells his son "You better not cry, I better not see a tear come out" and the little boy was walking around with his face all frowned up because he was trying not to cry.

I am heartbroken when i see things like that. I have a four year old son and I never tell him "Don't cry." I let him cry when it's warranted. If he throws a hissy fit or tantrum that's different. But if he falls down or hurts himself, I let him know it's ok to cry. Geez, imagine being told not to cry when something is physically or emotionally hurting you? I remember abt a year ago my boyfriend was turning in the bed and his elbow went right in my eye. I cried like a baby!!!!!! I mean it was WATER WORKS. I sounded like a little girl; just like when i was little. It hurt like hell. My poor boyfriend was holding me and telling me he was sorry...there was something abt the crying, it just felt good to do it for some reason. So, to think of boys not being able to express those same feelings, can really be awful for them.

I'm pretty emotional for the most part. I try not to get too emotional around others, just because I don't want to burden them with my feelings, but sometimes I do anyway. (See my current avatar and caption, LOL!!). So yeah, I'm probably more emotional than your average guy, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. If someone doesn't like it, or thinks it's not "manly" to show a bit of emotion, they can kiss my ass quite frankly!!

There's really only one thing that pushes my emotion button, and that's the death of friends/family. Otherwise, it's not that I bottle it up or hide it, I'm just NOT that emotional.
