I can't remember the name of this show for the life of me and it's driving me crazy. From what I can remember, it was on in the 70s and / or 80s, and was about a married couple (the husband was a cartoonist) who lived in an apartment, and their 2 adult daughters (1 blonde, 1 brunette) lived in the downstairs apartment. PLEASE HELP me remember the name of this show!

I believe you're thinking of Too Close For Comfort starring Ted Knight.

it was on ABC for a couple seasons, then went into first-run sydnication. It's another show that's never shown anymore. E! used to show reruns in the afternoons about 9 or 10 years ago.

As the others have stated, it's definitely Too Close for Comfort. Here's some more information regarding the show from imdb.com:

I remember watching this show as a kid in the 1980s. I'll have to check out the DVDs one of these days. I remember Ted Knight always wearing the college sweatshirts and talking to his cow puppet.
I also remember loving that big red house they lived in.

The show was pretty cool, and a chance for Ted Knight to play a serious character.
