I wonder why Cosgrove-Meurer Productions didn't allow fans to vote on what segments to include on the sets? Or if they did? I read several reviews on amazon how some people were disappointed that some stories were not included. That maybe the sets would have sold better had they done this.

They probably didn't think there was such a hardcore fanbase for the show. I think it was more of a "Just release it" type of mentality. I think they were hoping the casual TV watcher would go, "Unsolved Mysteries! I remember that show!" and pick it up. It's the same reason they were themed sets--"Bizarre Murders" is a lot easier to figure out when you're just looking at Wal-Mart than "Season One" or "Volume One". How many people would go "Ooh! MURDER!!" and pick it up, than those who would put the "Season One" box back because they don't know what's on it? I think it's the same reason we won't ever see a "Clever Con-artists" or "Lost Loves" set--who the hell would buy THAT? Other than us, of course.

I think that's why they dropped the price of the sets to around $20---nobody except the hardcore fans were buying them when they were $45. It's the same reason a "Best of" set was released--cater to the casual viewer. I bet the "Ultimate" set will be almost impossible to find--because they'll produce so few of them because it's for the hardcore fans only. I'm actually surprised they are releasing all the sets in one package, considering how they didn't really sell on their own.

I've always thought they should have an online poll through the website, then release the winning segments on DVD, selling them exclusively through the website as well.

That way they can manufacture the DVD's as they are ordered, instead of producing 500,000 copies that will just sit at Best Buy. I don't understand why more companies do this--especially for less popular TV shows that have small "cult" followings. I think the main reason many shows aren't released is that they don't think they will sell to the mainstream of America.

Well, just target the, well, TARGET AUDIENCE. It's not that hard. The show obviously does well in the ratings--it was brought back twice--on CBS and Lifetime for new episodes. Even now--Robert Stack has been dead for almost THREE YEARS, and the show is still on. What non-sitcom/Nick at Nite type show that has been off the air for more than 5 years is still on the air? I mean, sure, "I Love Lucy" and "Full House" and "Seinfeld" will always be in rotation SOMEWHERE--but UM? It's not the type of show that should still be on every day. But it IS.

I don't think the fanbase is HUGE like some of us want to believe. I think there's just a lot of regular folks who like to tune in from time to time. UM is like "Cops"--you've seen it a million times, but you just keep watching.

It would have been great if there had been more tv promotions of the DVDs like the half hour infomercials of the Hee Haw DVDs.

I wonder how they selected which stories to put on DVD, were they Cosgrove-Meurer's personal favorites or who chose what to put on DVD?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the episodes were selected by the producers. Also, in the cases of ghosts and UFOs, they choose only those cases/stories that were the most credible. I'm totally blanking on where I read this though.

In the case of the UFO's set, i think it contained every segment they ever did on the genre....in terms of only including ones that they thought were most credible, well apparently RS had a hard time believing any of the ufo/ghost segments, and im sure Crystaldawn would take issue with the notion that the segment about little ufo which flew though the window and came up with a cure for cancer was a credible one

Absolutely. You know I had a headache last night but by morning it was gone. I bet a tiny ufo flew into my window while I was sleeping and healed me....

Incorrect. There were at least two UFO segments that didn't make the set, and at least one ghost story. Possibly even more than that. Try searching past threads, as I remember people complaining pretty loudly about this.

Well, obviously, we are all relieved you werent abducted CD....I hope they didnt carry out experiments on you without you realizing...

Clearly they didnt put all the Ghost stories on, as a few more showed up on the now infamous bonus disc...but im intrigued to know which 2 UFO stories didnt make it....

I don't think the "Guardian" story - about an anonymous informant videotaping a UFO landing in Carp, Ontairio - was included.

The season one story about sightings over Gulf Breeze, Florida and Ed Walters fake photos certainly wasn't included, nor has it been shown on Lifetime.

My mistake. I knew it was a hoax, so I just assumed they wouldn't have included it.
