I thought Mr. Romano seemed to be a nice guy. He clearly seemed like he cared for Ann and the girls. I think he was bit older for Ann, so I think that is why she felt she needed to be on her own. She probably outgrew him. I thought at first maybe he beat her and the girls or did something bad.
