Ratings solid after four-month hiatus

Wentworth Miller on 'Prison Break'Like an inmate in lockdown, "Prison Break" hadn't seen the outside world in a long time before Monday night. That world, however, apparently hasn't forgotten about the show.

The first new episode of "Prison Break" in nearly four months drew close to 10.3 million viewers Monday, which wasn't as many as watched the "fall finale" in November but more than tuned in during an average week earlier in the season. It also helped FOX to a strong finish in the younger demographics it covets.

Because of FOX's crowded slate of midseason shows, headlined by "American Idol" and "24," "Prison Break" was forced to cool its heels just as its momentum was picking up. The final episode of the show's fall run, which aired in late November, hit a series high of 12.18 million viewers.

Monday's episode didn't hit that mark, but its 10.3 million viewers was the third-biggest audience ever for the show, behind the Nov. 28 cliffhanger and the series premiere. It drew about a million more people than the show's season average, and its 4.3 rating among adults 18-49 was right in line with previous telecasts.

Paired with "24," "Prison Break" also helped FOX to a second-place finish (behind CBS) for the night among viewers and adults 18-49. FOX led the pack among adults 18-34 and male viewers.

Over at CBS, "The New Adventures of Old Christine" showed it wasn't just a one-week wonder, bringing in better than 15 million viewers for the second straight week. The sitcom starring ex-"Seinfeld" regular Julia Louis-Dreyfus bagged 15.13 million viewers, a season high for CBS in the 9:30 p.m. Monday spot. "CSI: Miami" benefited from the strong lead-in, scoring its biggest audience in close to two months
