I think what Janice is referring to are the names. The cast used their actual names.

His name wasn't Earl. His name was Ernest Lee Thomas.

I think they did that some on Sanford and Son too. Wasn't Bubba's last name Bexley (actor was Don Bexley)?

JeffRuss, that is so true about the same "character name irony" applying to Sanford & Son. "Bubba Bexley" was played by Don Bexley. Same last name and all!

And as far as the WH character name irony goes, yes I noticed that right away.
Particularly about Danielle Spencer, who goes by the nickname Dee in real life.
She also goes by the nickame of Dani, which is super-cute.
And yes, it's pronounced like the boy's name (e.g.: as in Danny Bonaduce).

Also, one of Haywood's middle names (yes, he has more than one middle name; two to be exact) is DeWayne.

Sanford and Son used alot of real names too, but in a more creative way. Fred Sanford was actually the name of Redd Foxx's real life brother. And Grady Wilson was the name of the guy who played Fred's son, Lamont. So one of Fred's best friend on the show was "Grady Wilson"
