Anybody ever hear of this? - THE MUNSTERS ON GILLIGAN'S ISLAND 1987

I wonder if this is real. I doubt it since Jim Backus was so sick in 1981 when they did the first movie. I guess Thurston Howell the 4th would have been in it again. There are a lot of things I wonder about this like there is three copies of it and how I have never seen one single thing about this. It is possible but I don't know why I never heard of this. I might have to get a copy because I am really wondering about this.

both shows were tied in the ratings in each of there first seasons. Also The Munsters was syndicated close to as much as GI. They both had cartoon specials/series. Both had reunion movies. I know a lot of people like both shows, so who knows. I am glad to know I wasn't the only one not to hear of this.

...Jim Backus was in good health when he appeared in the FIRST TWO reunion movies ('78 and '79), but was mostly absent in "THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS ON..." (1981), due to declining health. He did, with Sherwood Schwartz's encouragement, manage to appear in ONE scene towards the end of the film.

As for "THE MUNSTERS ON GILLIGAN'S ISLAND"....that might have been a planned movie that never went beyond the discussion stage. How would you tie the two companies that each own the rights to both shows {TIME-WARNER & UNIVERSAL} together?

yeah, I got Harlem Globetrotters and he appears sort of randomly after the big basketball game.

I think that would have been one weird movie to have the Munsters meet the Castaways

kind of glad. I don't know if I would want death on the island. Come to think of it the episode "Not Guilty" is a type of murder mystery. The movie might have been a continuation of the episode or something.

....fourth "GILLIGAN'S ISLAND" movie (and possibly another "MUNSTERS" reunion) if Fred Silverman hadn't resigned from NBC in the summer of 1981. As chief programmer, HE was the one responsible for giving Sherwood Schwartz the "green light" for the three movies. When Brandon Tartikoff succeeded Silverman after 1981, he was somewhat lukewarm to Schwartz's suggestions. In his book "The Last Great Ride", Brandon recalled Sherwood pitching a TV movie to him about the descendants of the original "castaways" on the island...and gently but politely told Schwartz to get lost. Later, he touted Ted Turner [and "Superstation WTBS"] on the same idea, but nothing ever came of it.

There was a script out there but it never got the green light from NBC or any of the other networks! However let me point out that at the time (1978-1981) Universal owned the distribution rights all three Gilligan reunion movies, so Universal could of easily produced another TV special with The Munsters on Gilligan's Island without any legal problems. United Artist/MGM owned the original (1964-67Gilligan's Island series) which was later bought by Warner Bros.
It's really a shame that there was never a movie of that type made when most of the original casts were alive from both shows. Personally, I would still love to see a new movie titled The Brady Bunch Meets The Munsters on Gilligan's Island with a new cast sort of like what they did with those Brady & Munster remakes for FOX. That would be a nice little treat for us 60's fans!

I keep thinking the third Gilligan's Island movie should have been "The Brady Bunch on Gilligan's Island" . I never thought of "The Munsters on Gilligan's Island", but that was a good idea as well .

I bet Fred Gwynne would never have done it. I think after The Munsters Revenge he had finally really had it with the show.

Thinking about it now, The Munsters today began in 1988 and was produced by Sherwood Schwartz's son Lloyd, I wonder if we would have seen the original cast or the Munsters Today cast if it had actually happened.

I don't think the Munsters could stand being there long. I am sure that they would have seen Ginger as so ugly that they would have swam back to the mainland..
