Default Why does TV Land and Nick at Nite suck so bad?

Nick at Nite was started on the idea of showing great old shows that had had little or no syndication in recent years. Shows like Donna Reed, which had not aired anywhere in many years, Route 66, Smothers Brothers Show (sitcom), Patty Duke, Dobie Gillis, Ann Sothern, etc. TV Land, started out running tons of great shows which also had not been run anywhere, many of them seeing the light of day for the first time since being on the network (Joey Bishop Show, Coronet Blue, Young Lawyers, Shane, Longstreet, etc.) Now both networks are worse than oldies radio, only showing the most popular and best known 1% of old shows. And Nick doesn't even run old shows, just 80s and 90s crap, which isn't old. VCRs came out in the late 70s. Anyone who wanted to see Cosby or any of that other stuff again could have taped it when it ran originally. Not so with shows from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I can understand them wanting to cultivate some younger viewers, those who might be turned off by shows that aren't in color. But why can't TV Land for instance put aside a few hours a week to air shows that are not the same common crap that's aired non-stop for decades?

I agree that TV Land should go back and air shows that aren't on TV as much. They should have a variety from all the decades. I'm just sad I didn't have TV Land when they aired some of those shows.

its that darn 18-49 demographics or what ever it is. I for one would love to see shows that are rarely re ran. Car 54, The Fugitive, and a lot of others. I got to admit though, I do watch a lot of TV Land anyway. They may be re ran a lot but most of them are still good shows.

Yea its not that the shows aren't good. A lot of them are classics. I just wish they'd have some variety and put some shows on that haven't been in syndication in years. I regret I didn't have TV Land when Maude and Chico And The Man was on. The Fugitive is a great show. I watched that when it was on A&E. I would love to see The Defenders or some other dramas from the 50's and 60's air. How about some old sitcoms like December Bride and Topper?

What ticks me off is that N@N and TV Land have their highest ratings now. So they're all cocky thinking they have a great channel. But I'm with you. I want the rare classics. In fact, although (to me) Nick at Nite was still at it's peak, once "I Love Lucy" came on, they started airing the more well known classics and then moved into the 80's and 90's.

In fact, "I Love Lucy" was the first N@N show that I watched on N@N and then was able to turn to another channel (some FOX affiliate) and watch another episode of it, back to back. Now, that's a very common thing with Full House and Roseanne.

I think N@N should stick with the rare classics of the 50's, 60's and 70's. They could change their schedule around, but never move into the 80'. The 1990's are still way too new for both channels. They should air on TBS or USA or Comedy Central. As for the 1980's they could finda way to their own channel as well.

I think there's a big audience and a lot of money to be made if someone had a channel than ran all the true vintage shows. I'm surprised nobody has done that.

N@N and Tvland have to do something about their show choice. I would love it if they would bring back some of the older shows to both Networks. I wish I had TVland when they played some of the older shows. Older sitcoms are so much better then some of the garbage that they play now.

You know I like the shows they have on NAN now: Cosby Show, RoseAnne, Full House, Fresh Prince BUT I do have to say I'm getting tired of seeing them all the time!!! I would LOVE to see shows like Family Ties, Growing Pains, Benson, Gimme A Break, Silver Spoons, The Jeffersons etc on just for a change of pace.

Nick also used to only run shows that they had exclusive contracts on. If they ran them, no one else in the US could. That obviously has gone out the window.

I have no desire to ever watch any of these shows. They are all way too new and way too common. TV Land needs to address the fact that there is more to TV than such a small sampling of shows. It's too bad they were good when no one could get them. Success breeds mediocrity.

Unfortunately that's happened with a lot of channels...AMC and GSN for one. They just aren't what they used to be.

TV LAND sucks because now they keep on showing stuff other than the sitcoms.

N@N sucks because they show some shows that are more than they are supposed to be

That's actually a good thing. Their's more to classic tv besides sitcoms. They should show different drama and variety shows from different decades too.
