so i turned on Welcome Back Kotter today and Gabe Kotter and Vinnie werent there... could someone tell me why they arent there anymore?

He is proably watching a episode from season 4 because those are the eps that Vinny only appears occassionalyy and Mr. Kotter is no longer working at the school

John Travolta (Vinnie) left the show once his movie career started taking off.

Gabe Kaplan (Mr Kotter) missed a lot of episodes because of a contract dispute.

John Travolta did appear in a few episodes and he was billed as a "Special Guest Star." Gabe Kaplan didn't actually leave. He appeared in only a few episodes due to "creative differences" with executive producer James Komack. He did appear in the opening two-parter when Woodman was promoted to principal and named Gabe his assistant.
