Major Roger Healey
Can anyone tell me in which episode from the first season did Major Roger Healey learn that Jeannie was a genie? All I know is that it was in the spring of
1966, which would mean it must have been somewhere between Episode 27 and Episode 30. |

Then-Captain Healey learnt about Jeannie in the episode "Richest Astronaut in the World", which first aired on 15 January 1966.

I always wondered why it took so long for Roger to know. Him and Tony were boys.

Roger didn't know because Tony didn't want him to know. Tony already knew that his best friend was rather...um, greedy....and that Roger would do exactly what he did in subsequent episodes. Roger found out accidentally, and Tony was NOT a happy camper when that happened.
But, this is one of my favorite episodes of the first season! Donna |

I watched that episode this morning and you're right. Roger was greedy, homes, women, Rose Royce.

May I remind everyone that, when the original pilot was conceived, Captain Nelson had TWO best friends, Capt. Roger Healey-- and Lt. Pete Conway (Don Dubbins). When production for the series began, Sidney Sheldon decided that Tony Nelson would have just ONE best (and close) friend...and that was Roger, despite Bill Daily's apprehension of memorizing scripts. The turning point was "The Yacht Murder Case". Whether it was Bill's nerves or just the way the words came out, the scene where Roger is trying to convince Tony's fireplace to forgive him and "have a heart--be...be a pal just this once.." convinced Sidney that here was a character (and actor) that deserved more time on screen! So, it was decided that Roger would find out about Jeannie and let him in on the "insanity" as well! A wise decision....there was never a better (or funnier) co-star than Bill....that uncertainty and "nerves" simply became a part of Roger's personality...and he WAS funny!
(where else could he get a laugh when, in "Jeannie Breaks the Bank", he says just two words..."Good-bye!". That innocent remark never fails to crack me up!) |

I agree. Bill Daily added a lot to the show.
