not really. He loved his girlfriend and she broke his heart and he wrote the song to show her his love for her. I seen a television show that is based here in Southern California and they had the real Donna on there and she talked abt how Ritchie (Richard Valenzuela) wrote the song for her hoping she would see how much he loved her and she would come back to him. She felt that he wouldn't want her since he had become a "star" and he would forget abt her. He proved her wrong by writing this song for her.

that makes for interesting writing/reading, but only because it came from the real Donna and I had read the same thing elsewhere, makes me truly believe the source: donna herself.
