Default Sleep apnea?

I'm freaked out. The other night, I was sleeping on my stomach, I was dreaming that I couldn't breathe and when I woke myself up I wasn't breathing.I gasped for air and took me a few seconds to be able to catch a breath again. I dont know if my dream was too vivid of not being able to breathe or sleeping on my stomach causes it! Now I'm afraid to even fall asleep and end up the same way.

I went to this dream interpretation website and here's the meaning for 'Suffocation'
Suffocation

To dream that you feel suffocated, signifies that you are feeling smothered by some situation or relationship. It also forewarns that your current love relationship will end in an extremely bitter break up.

I don't have a current love relationship. ???

You might have it right with the sleep apnea diagnosis. My father had that, and it can be real scary. Perhaps you should see your doctor.

I don't want to give you bad advice, but if this was me I probably wouldn't see a doctor right away. I'd wait to see if it happens again. The fact that it occurred while you were dreaming may mean the dream was so intense, it actually caused you to stop breathing for a bit.

But then, there is a possibility that your breathing was in fact compromised (for another reason) and it led you to dream about it. In any event, one incident might not really be a cause for concern. If it happens again, I would definitely see a doctor. However, sometimes people with real sleep apnea don't realize when they aren't breathing, so it's possible you could have had these episodes before and not been aware. If you are very concerned, you could start with a general practioner and ask them.

You could also start off with looking at websites and see if you have any other symptoms of sleep apnea or maybe have risk factors for it. That may give you an idea before you were to see a doctor.

About the dream analysis website, I wouldn't take too much stock into that. Those analysis things are usually a joke.

Thanks for the advice...
I looked up the meaning of the dreams also just because I wondered about it . Went to webmd and read about sleep apnea risk factors but I don't snore and I'm not overweight, I also don't have tonsils so it's kinda ruled out. It only happens when I sleep on my stomach but not everytime. I tried very hard not to do that last night.
