Uncle Jesse a deadbeat? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Now please don't get me wrong, I love this show and Jesse is probably my favorite character but the episode I saw on ABC Family today when Rebecca's cousin (Mark Lynn-Baker, Cousin Larry of Perfect Strangers) visits with his twin daughters, I couldn't help agree with him. It does seem really pathetic that they're living in an attic. I found the excuse used in a couple episodes of not wanting to leave to avoid upsetting Michelle was farfetched. When Jesse and Rebecca first got married I could swallow that maybe they'd enjoy living in the attic as newlweds, because they're a young couple still who didn't need a big house that having children would accomodate better, and the attic was cozy and practical. I accepted it and wasn't bothered until they had the twins. At this point I would have moved out whether it upset Michelle or not. Like in the episode where that man tries to buy the house back from the Tanner family that he once lived in as a boy and Jesse and Rebecca were excited about finding their own place and Michelle gets upset about them considering to move. The first time, like I said, it was acceptable but I cringed when they changed their mind and decided to continue living in the attic. It seemed a bit pathetic, Rebecca was a well paid proffesional, I doubt she got paid peanuts for being a talk show host and I'm sure her salary alone could afford a row house like Danny's. They could have had them buy a house for sale next door. I know the reason is cause they don't want to break up the family but almost every woman wants her own home, especially after having a children. They want their own nest to decorate and tend to not an attic with two rooms. Sorry for the rant! Just annoys me!

"Michelle" was the equivalent of Christ on that show. I believe during the episode where she put a swimming pool in the kitchen, she actually turned the leftover water into wine. That was edited out of the syndicated versions. It was quite a sight to see.

Seriously though, I never liked this aspect of the show either. Once the annoying twins became regulars on the show (Nicky and Alex), you could tell that the quality of the show really started to drop. Full House was definitely at its peak in the first few seasons.

You know, I thought that was funny even as a Christian :-) After all, writers for centires have used Christ-like symbolism :-)

Remember that she had an apartment before - which means they save on rent like you say. They had to save up some money, but what they should have done is had *stated financial reasons* why they didn't move. It's very simple:

"The I.Q. Man," Jesse loses his job, has to start a business, even with Danny's help he's losing money. (Actually the reason they're still in in the books in the Chronology)

Season 5: Starting to build up money now that the business is gone, but the twins cost a lot. Have them in the hospital a while longer. (They *were* a month premature, so at least one being in the hospital an extra week like my twin cousins back when i was a kid would have made perfect sense.)

Season 7: Again, getting ready to buy a house, but Jesse spends all their savings on the Smash Club, something too good to pass up.

This makes perfect sense and allows them to move out by the end of season 8.

You also have to remember that San Francisco is a very expensive place to live and isn't nearly as convienient to "buy your own place" like it may be in the areas that some of you are from. I think it may also be part of the reason Danny asked Jessie and Joey to move in with him, and not just to help raise the girls, but to conserve money also.

When Jesse mixed up the babies and took a footprint of one, and Becky was coming upstairs, why didn't he just put the baby's bootie back on him instead of sticking his foot in his pocket?

I'd hardly call him a deadbeat, just because they didn't buy their own house. They liked it there, and the rest of the family liked having them there, and I think it's kind of nice.

Jesse always had a job of some sort, and was a pretty successful guy, so I wouldn't consider him a deadbeat at all.

I don't think it was just for Michelle though because he's been living there for 4 years and was proubly hard to leave the family. But just my opinion though.
