Default Well here is one of the roles in 1979 that Mabel King played after she left What's

Happening. She played a Jamican Woman on Barney Miller-lol And NO she was no where near funny, just like on What's Happening. It was a very ODD ROLE

She was good in "The Jerk" and "The Wiz" as well.

You need to stop dissin and hatin on Mabel. All because she is fat. I have never seen such a shallow and opinionated person like you. How many times I have to tell you she wasn't meant to be funny on What's Happening?! People can have a effect on a show rather than providing laughs! She was part of the chemistry! Why do you own seasons 1 and 2 anyway if you hate Mabel so much? If you hate Mabel like you say you do, you need to post comments reguarding season 3 and What's Happening Now!!

When Mabel took the role of Mabel Thomas, she was under the impression the show would be around her and the kids. Had she known how little she would be used and how her character was, she wouldn't have taken the role. Didn't you read the articles on this? There was the article I recently added to the WH forum where she states she regretted leaving broadway for WH. She didn't expect to be a funny character. She thought she was playing a mother.

Irene, all Solomon wants to do is debate how fat and unfunny Mabel is. you can't get through his shallow skull. Mabel was more to What's Happening than he thinks she was. he sounds like a pre-teen dissin her. I think he wants to be a troll. Solomon, you know nothing about characters, all you do is criticize on how stuff is not to your liking. If you get on here and debate my reply, too bad, I've said what I have say, you are shallow, and stubborn as a mule! I suppose you want to say Judy Cohen should have made a better Mamma Thomas?!

Yeah what's up with that? He doesn't like to see over weight women on TV but he's fine with watching Rerun dance around all the time? I don't get it

He doesn't like Mabel King because he found her to be unfunny. There's nothing wrong with that. That is his opinion and he is entitled to it. I will disagree though, because I felt that Mama Thomas was very important to the show. It just wasn't the same without her in season 3.

I never ever said anything about Mabel's weight. I said she would have been more interesting to watch if they gave her a husband. She just wasn't a good actress, like Esther Rolle. Again, not to do with her size, her acting. When watching her character it was too obvious she was on stage.

Your telling me that you never said anything ANYTHING about her weight? I distinctly remember a thread and her weight was brought up. You said that you found it gross and unattractive.
