Default A Letter from Noah Gray-Cabey

I found Noah Gray-Cabey's website, and I finally gave him a piece of mind about his role as Franklin Mumford.

Quote:
Thank-you so much for your letter. I had no idea that I was powerful enough to single-handedly ruin a major network television show. But thanks to you I have this newfound knowledge and I will now move forward to fulfill my destiny. The time has come for me to rule the world.

Noah Gray-Cabey
Unlike Franklin, the kid does have a good sense of humor.

Here's the letter:

To Noah.

Hello. I'm a regular TV viewer, and a former fan of the show My Wife and Kids.

Although the show airs in local syndication, I haven't seen it in a long time, because I had given up on the show since its cancellation last spring. That said, I'm respectfully holding you at fault for the show's demise.

When I first tuned in in 2002, My Wife and Kids was an excellent show about two parents who were able to maintain a successful family, in spite of the mistakes they made in high school. I haven't seen much of Season 1, but I still see Season 2 as the show's true form.

Season 3, however, was when the show got screwy. Your initial appearance, as Kady's new friend, was acceptable, as it seemed at the time the writers were having a hard time keeping Parker Posey on a center stage. Your first two appearances were fine, but the problem started when your character, Franklin, stuck around for the remainder of the season.

Franklin was okay as a one-time character, but as the show went on, he became less and less acceptable as a regular. What I especially hated was how, in the Season 3 finale, where Junior graduated from high school, Franklin made an unbridled attempt to take over as the "new son".

Of course, once Junior got Vanessa pregnant, that never really happened, but Franklin had become a new regular by Season 4, and from then on, he was appearing in EVERY episode, even when he wasn't needed, and in some cases, was getting more lines than either Kady or Claire. Season 5, in short, had some of the worst writing in television hsitory.

Now, the reason why I'm putting your character at fault is because, it seems once the writers experiemented with the "little kid who's too smart for his age", that encouraged them to start utilizing outlandish plots. Not that I hate cartoonish humor, as that's what made more suitable shows like Married..with Children so much fun. But as they continued with the nonsensical humor, the stories became less believable, the characters started getting less likeable, and ultimately, the show was at a distance from its original premise.

I'm also led to believe that, if this never happened, if Franklin hadn't appeared more than a few times, and if the show had stayed on track and not made so many unnecessary changes, My Wife and Kids would currently be earning high ratings in its 6th Season.

On a different note, the end to the series finale was just awful, and further demonstrates my point of how far the show had sunk by that time.

I do respect your talents as a piano player, which was probably how you got on the show in the first place. But my overall criticism is that you're a talented musician, but your unsuccessful to dominate My Wife and Kids makes me question your abilites as an actor. TV sitcoms have made similar mistakes before by adding the "new kid", and once that happens, there's usually no turning back.

My advice is to improve on your acting skills, and for the love of God, DON'T destroy another family sitcom!

Thank you.

He did hurt the show but really how can you blame him? He's just an actor doing a job . It was the writers who ruined the show really by focussing on his character to much and creating silly stories in the last few seasons.

Nothing against Noah, but I'm noticing that he's the only cast member whose still working while the others have disappeared.

Not really. Damon Wayans has a new comedy show (a la Living Color) on Showtime called THE UNDERGROUND. The weird thing though is that on Living Color, I would LMAO. This show, considering it's on cable, needs to be more funny. I mean, he cussed and so forth, but the material which should be funny, didn't seem as funny as on Living Color. Besides, he also makes and produces stuff with his brothers...they make $$$$$$. You may not see him on television, that doesn't mean he isn't working.

ITA

that was downright mean to send that to a kid who was just doing his job.

i totally agree with the assessment, but i think the criticism is directed at the wrong parties.

start with damon wayans. he was executive producer that let the show get off course with buffoonery and let his sons have too much creative control/input into the show.

then move on to the suits at abc. they should have given damon a speeding ticket.
